Ronald Robie is an associate justice on the Third District of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed by former Governor Gray Davis and took the oath of office on January 15, 2002.[1] He ran for retention in 2014, winning a new term that expires on January 3, 2027.[2][3]

Education

Robie received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1958 and earned his master's degree in journalism from this school in 1960. He earned his J.D. in 1967 from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.[4]

Career

In 1960, Robie was a legislative intern in the California State Assembly, and from 1961 to 1969 he was staff director of the Assembly. He was the attorney member and vice chair of the State Water Resources Control Board from 1969 to 1975, and director of the California Department of Water Resources from 1975 until his appointment Sacramento Municipal Court in 1983. Robie was appointed to the Sacramento County Superior Court in 1986 and served on that court until 2002. He was the court's presiding judge from 1994 to 1995. From 1970 to 2013, Robie taught water law and environmental law courses at McGeorge School of Law, and he continues to author articles on environmental litigation and water law.[4]
