Logan was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. He was appointed to this position on January 30, 2012 and served until he was confirmed to be a federal judge for the same court.

Education

Logan earned his B.S. from the University of Louisville in 1988 and his J.D. from University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1992. He also holds an M.A. from the National University, which he earned in 1997.^[3]^[4]

On September 19, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Steven Logan to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. The seat was vacated by James Teilborg, who took senior status on January 30, 2013. John McCain has this to say about the nomination,

The nominees to serve on the United States District Court for the District of Arizona have demonstrated devotion to public service and commitment to justice, and I believe they are uniquely qualified to address the legal issues facing our state... The recent judicial vacancies in Arizona have created an unsustainable situation for the Court and are a serious impediment to the administration of justice for the people of Arizona. The need to fill these vacancies is critical as the District of Arizona ranks as one of the top ten busiest district courts in the country.^[2]^[5]

The American Bar Association rated Logan unanimously Well Qualified.^[6]

Logan's nomination was returned by the Senate on January 3, 2014, and he was renominated on January 6th by President Obama.^[7]

Steven Logan had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on January 28, 2014.^[8] The hearing came after Senator Jeff Flake submitted his blue slip, which he had previously held on to.^[9] On February 27, 2014, Logan was reported to the full Senate by the Senate Judiciary Committee on a voice vote. The United States Senate confirmed Logan on May 14, 2014, on a vote of 96-0.^[10]
