Defending the Constitution is paramount and is the struggle of our age. We must fight for our fundamental rights and our freedoms. Government overreach must stop. No more mandates. We must resist the insanity of the cultural revolution underway in our country. It is divisive and toxic to our unity. Unity is our strength. It is a fight for the soul of America.

The Vietnam War. I watched Walter Cronkite as he described the events in the war.. I clearly recall the casualty figures presented. I looked each night to see. This was in 1968. I was 8.

Candidate Connection

Ted Hill participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 8, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Ted Hill's responses follow below.[4]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1. Support and defend the Constitution.

2. Sustainable growth and infrastructure improvements

3. Improve education to be competitive in the 21st Century.[5][6]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

We must redirect the power back to the States. Get Government out of our lives and our economy. Let free enterprise thrive.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[6]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Ted Hill answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. He briefed at the War College and told us there is too much power in the Supreme Court and Federal Government. We need to redirect power back to the States as it was originally intended.[6]

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else that best describes your political philosophy?

Mao-The Unknown Story. We need to understand the threat of revolutionary Marxism, it’s philosophies and how it is encroaching on our society.[6]

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty

Integrity Patriotism Duty[6]

What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?

Honesty

Integrity Selfless and tireless devotion to my country and my State.[6]

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Experienced and focused leadership with a laser focus on doing the right thing for the people of Idaho. Standing resolute to my fundamental principles. Bottom line, support and defend the Constitution, so help me God.[6]

What legacy would you like to leave?

Making a difference for the people of Idaho. Leaving a legacy of freedom and propsperity for the people and my family.[6]

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?

The Vietnam War. I would watch Walter Cronkite and see the casualty lists each night. This was in 1968.[6]

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Lawn mowing service I started at 10 years of age.[6]

(For non-Nebraska candidates) What do you consider the most important differences between the legislative chambers in your state?

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?

No. Being fresh and new is the best choice. The longer you are in politics, the higher the risk there is for encroachment of undesirable influences.[6]

What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?

Infrastructure. Our roads are 30 years behind. We will be facing gridlock and stifled economic growth as our local mobility screeches to a halt.[6]

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?

A cooperative relationship that seeks solutions. Don’t let partisan politics destroy the ability to govern.[6]

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

There should be relationships among legislators to build cooperation and effectively leverage the resources available to find the best solutions.[6]

What process do you favor for redistricting?

Needs to be a bipartisan agreement.[6]

If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

Transportation.

Right to Life.[6]

Are you interested in running for a different political office in the future?

Focused on this race right now.[6]

Both sitting legislators and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?

I had a fabulous discussion with a Vietnam Vet with ALS. He had concerns over benefits for his Vet brothers and sisters. I told him it would be my most important duty to support our Vets. This gentleman was in a wheelchair. I had to raise his had to shake. That hand shake is seared into me to never fail him.[6]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Idaho

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
