Thomas Shanahan was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska. He joined the court in 1993 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Shanahan assumed senior status on May 5, 2004, and served until his death on December 27, 2011.[1]

Early life and education

Shanahan graduated from the University of Notre Dame with his bachelor's degree in 1956 and later graduated from Georgetown University Law Center with his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1959.[1]

Professional career

Shanahan was a private practice attorney in Nebraska from 1959 to 1983. He was appointed to the Nebraska Supreme Court in 1983 and served in that role until 1993.[1]

Judicial career

Shanahan was nominated by President Bill Clinton on August 6, 1993, to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089. Shanahan was confirmed by the Senate on November 20, 1993, and received commission on November 22, 1993 before assuming senior status on May 5, 2004. Shanahan served until his death at the age of 77 on December 27, 2011.[1]
