William Walter Wilkins (1942-present) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.[1]

District of South Carolina

Wilkins was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on July 9, 1981, to a seat vacated by Robert Hemphill; he was confirmed by the Senate on July 20, 1981, and received commission on July 22, 1981. He served the District of South Carolina until he was elevated to the Fourth Circuit on July 13, 1986.[1]

Fourth Circuit

Wilkins was nominated to the Fourth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan on June 3, 1986, to a seat vacated by Emory Sneeden; he was confirmed by the Senate on June 13, 1986, and received commission on June 16, 1986. From 2003-2007, he served as the chief judge. He assumed senior status on July 1, 2007. He served the Fourth Circuit until his retirement on October 5, 2008.[1]
