Rep. Malliotakis vows to fight congestion pricing until President-elect Trump takes office

BROOKLYN/STATEN ISLAND — DAYS AFTER A STATE SENATOR URGED NY GOV. HOCHUL to implement congestion pricing, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-11) on Tuesday, Nov. 12, joined a bipartisan group of local elected officials united against the potential return of congestion pricing. The group pointed out that President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to terminate the program during his first week back in office in January.

“The governor should learn, look at the will of the people, listen to the will of the people who’ve made it very clear that they do not want this tax cash grab,” said Malliotakis, who shared that she personally spoke with the President-elect about the issue. “He is opposed, he sees that it’s detrimental to our city’s economy, and that it will hurt hard working New Yorkers.”

Malliotakis stated her intention to prolong the fight until after Inauguration Day on Jan. 20 and to find every possible legislative and legal angle to abort congestion pricing. The group fighting congestion pricing has several Democrats as well, including State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (D-23), who cited environmental and health concerns, such as high asthma and cancer rates.

Last Friday, State Sen. Andrew Gounardes (D-26) urged Hochul to implement congestion pricing before the end of the current Biden administration.
