Saint SwithbertArticle

(Saint) Bishop (March 1) (8th century) One of the twelve missionaries who, impelled by Saint Egbert, crossed over from England into Germany, under the leadership of Saint Willibrord (A.D. 690). Saint Swithbert laboured principally in Friesland (Holland and North Belgium) and, when on a visit to England, was consecrated Bishop by Saint Wilfrid. Innumerable were the conversions he made among the Pagans. In his old age he retired to a monastery he had built at Kaiserswerth on the Rhine, where he died A.D. 713.
