English: U Nu (otherwise known as Thakin Nu; 25 May 1907 – 14 February 1995) was a leading Burmese nationalist and political figure of the 20th century. He was the first Prime Minister of Burma under the provisions of the 1947 Constitution of the Union of Burma, from 4 January 1948 to 12 June 1956, again from 28 February 1957 to 28 October 1958, and finally from 4 April 1960 to 2 March 1962.

Eredetileg tanár volt. 1930-tól részt vett az angolellenes szabadságharcban, ami miatt 1940-től 1942-ig börtönben tartották. A japán megszállás idején létesült burmai kormányban a külügyi, majd a tájékoztatásügyi tárcát töltötte be. A háború után mint az Antifasiszta Liga elnöke 1947-ben megkötötte az angol kormánnyal a Burma függetlenségét kimondó londoni egyezményt. 1948-től 1956-ig, 1957-től 1958-ig majd 1960-tól 1962-ig miniszterelnök volt. Elfogadta a békés együttélés elveit, egyik kezdeményezője volt az 1955 évi bandungi konferencia összehívásának. 1962-ben kormányát Ne Win tábornok katonai puccsa döntötte meg.
