Cleveland, OH — On December 31, Cleveland Public Library (CPL) will be discontinuing its Words on Wheels, a program introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally designed as a hands-free, contactless way for patrons to get books and materials delivered through the U.S. Postal Service, Words on Wheels was a temporary service to meet the unique needs of that time.
The good news? CPL’s Homebound Services and the Ohio Library for the Blind and Print Disabled will continue without any changes. These services have always been separate from Words on Wheels and will remain available to those who rely on them.
For those who used Words on Wheels, there are still plenty of options to get the materials you love:
- Hold & Pickup: You can place holds on books and pick them up at your closest CPL branch or any CLEVNET library.
- Homebound Services: If you live within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) service area, you may be eligible for Homebound Services, which allows you to borrow CPL materials delivered to your home. To sign up, call 216-623-7005. More details, including eligible ZIP codes, are available at CPL Homebound Services.
- Ohio Library for the Blind and Print Disabled: If you qualify, you can join this statewide service for access to additional resources. Visit OLBPD for eligibility details.
CPL remains committed to making sure everyone has access to the books and materials they need. If you have any questions or want to learn more about how to access these services, feel free to contact your local branch or visit the CPL website.
