κατάσχεσις, κατασχέσεως, (κατέχω), the Sept. often for אֲחֻזָּה, possession;

1. a holding back, hindering: anonymous in Walz, Rhetor. i., p. 616, 20.

2. a holding fast, possession: γῆν δοῦναι εἰς κατάσχεσιν, to give in possession the land, Acts 7:5, as in Genesis 17:8; Deuteronomy 32:49 Alex.; Ezekiel 33:24; Ezekiel 36:2f, 5; Josephus, Antiquities 9, 1, 2; (Test xii. Patr., test.
