Gods of Egypt

The Egyptian Gods are the pantheon of gods and goddessess worshiped in ancient Egypt. They're consisted of the Ogdoad, the primordial gods within the pantheon, and the Ennead, a group which later supplanted the former. Throughout history until the modern day, they have been the chief patrons of several groups and figures, including the Black Marvel Family, the current Doctor Fate, and the Amazons of Bana-Mighdall.

History

The creation of the world and humanity is attributed to either Ra, Atum or Amun, who are understood as different aspects of the same deity, often associated with the Sun.[3]

The home of the gods is the paradise known as is either Heliopolis ("City of the Sun")[1] or Aaru, but some of them also inhabit the Duat in the underworld, where human souls go after death; their hearts are weighed on the Scales of Justice of Osiris and Anubis, respectively king and guardian of the Egyptian underworld: if the heart is heavier than the feather of the goddess Maat, the soul is devoured by the bestial goddess Ammit, but if it is lighter then it has permitted passage to the afterlife.[4][5][6]

The Gods of Egypt act in the world to maintain maat, the divine cosmic order, to ensure the continuity of the universe and life. However, forces of chaos constantly try to disturb maat, often arising among the gods themselves — such as Apep, the chaos serpent enemy of Ra; Set, killer of Osiris, the first pharaoh; and Anubis, god of death whose power has increased in the modern era with mortals increasingly turned to violence, while the power of the other gods has been decreasing due to the lack of worshipers.[7][8]

Therefore, sometimes the Egyptian gods seek allies in the mortal realm in the fight against chaos, endowing them with the necessary power, such as Prince Khufu, Ibis, Blue Beetle, Doctor Fate, the Metamorphae, the Shim'Tar and the Black Marvel Family.

Powers

  • Godly Physiology
    • Immortality
    • Power Distribution: The Egyptian pantheon consists of several deities who play a role in empowering the Black Marvel Family, particularly Black Adam, the former Champion of the Wizard. These deities bestow attributed powers comparable to those of Shazam, and it is believed that their abilities may surpass those derived from the Greco-Roman pantheon in terms of potency.[9] The Egyptian gods, notably Thoth and Hauhet, also directly serve as the patrons of the current incarnation of Doctor Fate, Khalid Nassour.
    • Additionally, the Gods have some power related to his/her individual sphere of influence.

Weaknesses

  • Power Loss: Similar to other pantheons, the Egyptian gods draw greater power from the act of worship. When the number of worshippers diminishes, the gods within the Egyptian pantheon, along with their power, gradually decline as well.[10]
  • Vulnerability to Blood of Pharaohs: Within the Egyptian pantheon, certain deities are vulnerable to magical powers wielded by descendants of ancient royal Pharaohs. These individuals possess the ability to seal or influence these deities through their ancestral abilities.[6]
