Mobius, universally known as the "Anti-Monitor", is an ancient and rage-filled being from the Sixth Dimension with a coercive will to destroy all life in the Multiverse. He is one of the three children of Perpetua and one of the original beings of the Multiverse, responsible for managing the different aspects of the reality.
Early Existence
Mobius was created by Perpetua in the Sixth Dimension alongside his brothers, Mar Novu and Alpheus, rent from the Overvoid into flesh. She was a super-celestial being charged by the Source with creating a Multiverse in the confines of the Greater Omniverse. Her children were tasked with overseeing and managing the three different realms of her new reality, with Mobius being in charge of the Antimatter Universe as the Anti-Monitor, watching over his domain bordering the other realms and keeping it free of life as it should always be. His brother Mar Novu is in charge of the Orrery of Worlds as the Monitor, guarding the stable worlds within and intervening to prevent any crisis between them. His other brother Alpheus is the guardian of the Forge of Worlds beneath it all as the World Forger, crafting new worlds.

The first children of a new realm of existence created by Perpetua.
Billions of years later, after discovering that Perpetua's prolonged existence defied her natural function, Mar Novu gathered his brothers to alert supercelestial beings like their mother of her treachery. Perpetua, however, saw this and attacked them with her Great Army, but an envoy from the Source, the Cosmic Raptor, imprisoned Perpetua within the Source Wall composed of her own legions, so that she might see her Multiverse properly reborn and overseen by her children while awaiting the Source's final judgment. Mobius was driven mad by this, as the presence of the Source Wall now rendered the original purpose of his domain obsolete, and then vowed to kill his brother Mar Novu, even if it took a billion years.[4]
Reborn
As the Multiverse was being remade, Krona went back into time during this exact moment. His actions resulted in the Multiverse splintering off intro an infinite number of universes. Mobius later took on a new form in this universe. From her prison the Source Wall, Perpetua was able to influence Mobius's new form, inflaming his desire for revenge against his brothers.
Reborn, Mobius sought out the knowledge he required to exact vengeance towards his brother. In the process, he built a device known as the Mobius Chair in order to learn the secrets of creation. Mobius was ruthless in pursuit of his goals, murdering countless people.[5] Mobius' thirst for the knowledge would be his downfall, and when he laid his eyes upon the dark secret at the core of the anti-monitor universe—the Anti-Life Equation—he was forever cursed by it, and was transformed by it, the living embodiment of the Anti-Life Equation.[6] He lashed out in pain and became a destroyer of universes.[7]
Some time after that, he met a New God, known as Metron, to whom he willingly gave his universe-traveling Mobius Chair.[8]
As a result of Perpetua's influence, the Anti-Monitor was able to begin a catacylsmic conflict known as the Crisis on Infinite Earths. Though he was defeated (at great cost), his actions caused the few universes that survived his onslaught to collapse into a single universe. Further, the crisis caused a crack in the Source wall to develop, which allowed Perpetua's influence to spread.[9]
After the Flashpoint, he was reborn again on the planet Qward. Soon, the Anti-Monitor visited a parallel universe's Krypton, where the malignant Jor-Il set into motion events that drew his ire for their entire race. He destroyed the planet, leaving nothing alive. However, Jor-Il was able to send his only son, Kal-Il, away from Krypton towards the planet Earth before his demise. In sending his son away, Jor-Il hoped to lay the seeds for revenge against the Anti-Monitor.
In the future, the Anti-Monitor defeated Kal-Il and his allies in the Crime Syndicate, destroying everything on Earth as he did on Krypton. The Syndicate abandoned Earth attempted to flee, hoping to find a new universe to subjugate. However, they became trapped between worlds, unable to escape. Only Alfred Pennyworth, going by the alias of the Outsider, and Atomica, managed to escape their prison as a result of the Justice League forcing Darkseid through a Boom-Tube.[10]
Some time after Anti-Monitor destroyed Earth 3, he encountered Grail, the powerful daughter of the malevolent Dark God Darkseid, who informed him that he could free himself from the Anti-Life Equation by killing Darkseid, during which time reality would fracture and the line between gods and men would blur, which would allow him to separate himself from the Equation.[7] They became allies, and she helped him prepare for his coming war against Darkseid.
When the rest of the Syndicate invaded the parallel Earth, the true nature of the entity who destroyed their world is revealed. They initially claimed that they destroyed their homeworld when its citizens rose up against the them, forcing the Syndicate to destroy the planet. This was revealed to be a lie, and it's shown that their world was destroyed by an alien entity that none of them could stop: none other than the Anti-Monitor. They had arrived to Prime Earth in an effort to hide from him.
To the dismay of the Syndicate, following the death of Power Ring by Sinestro, his Power Ring sent reverberations throughout the Multiverse, something Kal-Il worried may alert the Anti-Monitor to the Syndicate's location. But before he could do anything about it, the Injustice League came into conflict with the Syndicate, resulting in the deaths of Deathstorm, Atomica and Johnny Quick, as well as the incarcerations of Ultraman and Superwoman. (Owlman, however, eluded the Injustice League and was believed to be in hiding.)[11]
When the Justice League, having reconvenes after being freed from Firestorm, discussed how best to approach whatever entity destroyed the Crime Syndicate's world, whom they supposedly believed to be Darkseid—a fact which they do not yet know to be very wrong—Cyborg suggests they find the Ring of Volthoom: he reasons that if the ring is similar in nature to that of a Green Lantern Ring, it would have a combat log detailing Harold Jordan and the Syndicate's clashes with the Anti-Monitor. The trouble, though, would be finding the ring's location.
The League does eventually find the ring, but not before the Doom Patrol does. The ring has found a new host in Jessica Cruz, and creates a green fire large enough to be seen across the Multiverse, fulfilling the Syndicate's fears. Niles Caulder, intent on stopping the Power Ring by killer her, is in turn murdered by Lex Luthor, who's plan of merely subduing her succeeds. Batman appears and, relieving Jessica her fears, they effectively shut down the ring. The Ring attempts to warn Batman of the Anti-Monitor, but it is shut down before it can explain the true nature of the destructive entity.
Darkseid War
Mobius' old acquaintance, Metron, came across with him while he was preparing his invasion of Earth. He tried to convince Mobius that his actions will lead to the demise of all reality, that he must abandon his plans of destruction, but Mobius rebuffed his claims, claiming that he needed to do it in order to start a war with Darkseid and end the era of the New Gods.[8]
After his ally opened the doorway between the universes, the Anti-Monitor finally arrived at the Earth where he would ultimately confront Darkseid.[12] After summoning an army of shadows and, cloaked the sun, he effortlessly defeats the Amazon trying to stop him, is was about to destroy his enemies when Metron arrives to teleport them away, but he nonetheless decided to focus on the upcoming war, requesting Grail to bring her father to him.[13]
After a long wait, Darkseid and his forces of Apokolips finally arrive, and the war of the Dark God against the Anti-God has finally begun.[14] The battle rages-on until a desperate Darkseid summons the embodiment of Death to aid him, unto which Mobius uses his power to merge it with the nearby being of speed to transform it into his own weapon. Together with the power of the Anti-Life Equation, Mobius delivers a fatal blow to Darkseid, ultimately killing the Dark God.[6]
After killing Darkseid, the Anti-Monitor places himself into a cocoon of energy and separates from the Anti-Life Equation, returning to his original form as "Mobius", the way he was before he was turned into the "Anti-Monitor" by the Anti-Life Equation.[15][16][17]
Mobius emerging from his cocoon in his original form, still possessing vast power and an army of shadow demons, and in order to get his Mobius Chair back from Batman, engages both the Justice League and Crime Syndicate in battle in Gotham City.[7] Mobius kills several Green Lanterns during the battle, vaporizing them with powerful blasts of antimatter. Ultraman assaults Mobius with a vengeance, but Mobius gets the upper hand and kills Ultraman, vaporizing him with a concentrated blast of antimatter on his chest.[7] Lex Luthor, who had been transformed into the God of Apokolips and had gained Darkseid's powers, steps into the fight with an army of parademons at his side, ready to engage Mobius.[7]
Mobius and Lex Luthor engage each other in battle, Lex seemingly having the upper hand.[18] However, Mobius counters with a burst of super speed and grapples him, holding fast his throat and slowly killing him with his anti-matter energy. Suddenly, his former ally Grail arrives via Boom Tube with a super-powered Steve Trevor: Grail had transformed him with the Anti-Life Equation. Trevor proceeds to fire an immensely powerful blast of Anti-Life energy at Mobius, killing him instantly.[18]
Justice/Doom War
He came to reform once more, this time in his original form, where he witnessed events occurring in the Multiverse that included his mother Perpetua being freed from her imprisonment. When the Triumvirate of Sea Gods attacked Earth, Aquaman sought to stop their Death Kraken and seemingly sacrificed his life in the process but he was saved by the Anti-Monitor. He recruited the Atlantean to aid him in stopping Perpetua and knew that a piece of the Totality resided in the past. Thus, he dispatched Arthur Curry there to aid his Justice League allies.
At this point, he was sought out by his brothers and the Justice League in stopping his mother who similarly sought to recruit her errant son. Perpetua believed Mobius would side with her but he instead worked alongside justice and battled against his mother. During the fight, he merged with his kin in forming the Ultra-Monitor after being empowered by Starman and fought against Perpetua.[19] At first, they managed to match their mothers power but her allies managed to achieve their objective thus restoring the totality of her might. With it, she moved the Multiverse towards doom and infected Mobius with Anti-Life thus turning him into his full Anti-Monitor form so that he would stand by her side.[20]
With his brothers trapped within him, the Anti-Monitor was dispatched by Perpetua to eliminate one of the few threats to her which were the wings on Kendra Saunders back as they had ties to the Totality. Mobius pursued his quarry through space where he found Hawkgirl's ship where he nearly killed her. However, he was interrupted by John Stewart with the Green Lantern smashing his ship at high speeds into the Anti-Monitor.[21] The crash was with such force that it separated Mobius from his brothers who were angered at his betrayal. Outnumbered and weakened by the loss of power, the Anti-Monitor called for his mothers aid but Perpetua rather than support her son decided to throw Earth-44 at their location in order to eliminate all of them. She was thwarted when the World Forger decided to use the last of his strength to strike at the crashing planet and use the resultant power to open a gateway to allow his allies to escape.[22]
Death Metal
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Monitor Physiology: As one of the Original Monitor, Mobius was already amongst the most powerful beings in existence, along with his brothers, Mar Novu and Alpheus, long before he was bound to the Anti-Life Equation.[23] Like his brothers, Mobius's powers are diminished on the Third Dimension but remain powerful enough to affect reality on a cosmic scale.[24] After becoming the living embodiment of the Anti-Life Equation, Mobius was universally known as the "Anti-God" and had enough might to destroy entire planets and consume all life in universes.[25][10][7] Even after separating himself from the Anti-Life Equation, Mobius still had enough strength to fight God of Apokolips Lex Luthor and nearly killed him during the confrontation if it wasn't for Grail interrupting the fight with the Anti-Life-infused Steve Trevor.[7] After being imbued with Anti-Life once more by Perpetua, Mobius imprisoned his brothers within himself and allegedly have regained the power scale he has ached all these years,[20] though the impact caused by the Flash's car traveling at full speed through space separated him from his brothers.[26]
- Superhuman Strength: Mobius single-handedly defeated the entire Crime Syndicate,[10] and was able to defeat the powerful Dark God Darkseid in battle.[6] Even after separating from the Anti-Life Equation, Mobius still had enough strength to fight the god of strength Superman and the god of apokolips Lex Luthor.[18] He has also displayed enough strength to overpower both Wonder Woman and Superwoman at the same time while they were trying to subdue him with their lasso.[7]
- Invulnerability: Mobius was strong enough to withstand the force of Darkseid's Omega Beams, as well as several of his punches.[6] He has resisted the combine assault of the Green Lantern Corps with almost no damage and survived blows from powerful Kryptonians like Superman and Ultraman with only a bloody lip.[7] He has even survived several near-infinite mass punches from the Flash powerful enough to hurl him across the multiverse several times and immediately after the combined assault of several heroes from across the Multiverse, although it did cause him severe damage.[27]
- Flight: Mobius had the power to fly and hover in the air.[13]
- Interstellar Travel: Mobius can travel the reaches of space where no human body could possibly survive without the aid of technology or protection.[28]
- Energy Absorption: Mobius could absorb and consume the power of living beings[6], planets and entire universes.[11] [8]
- Bio-Fusion: Mobius can absorb beings within himself.[29]
- Anti-Matter Blast: Mobius can fire beams of concentrated anti-matter energy from his hands.[8] This blasts are so powerful that he was able to kill three Green Lanterns with a single blast.[7]
- Disintegration: Mobius can disintegrate others with concentrated antimatter, even invulnerable opponents like Ultraman.[7]
- Darkness Manipulation: Mobius could use the Anti-Life Equation to manipulate the shadows cast by humanoid beings to give them life and use them as loyal servants to aid him in battle.[13]
- Mind Control: With the Anti-Life, Mobius can control the mind of others and it is powerful enough to overwhelm his brothers' will.[20]
- Immortality: Mobius lived over twenty billion years and shown no sign of regression.
- Resurrection: Like his brothers, Mobius can reform in the Sixth Dimension when killed and respawn into the main reality in many ways.[4]
- Size Alteration: Sometimes Morbius appeared at normal heights, at others more colossal sizes.[27]
Abilities
- Hand-to-Hand Combat (Advanced): Mobius has shown capable of holding his own against Darkseid for a while.[6]
- Indomitable Will: Mobius was able to resist Superwoman's Lasso of Submission stating that compared to the Anti-Life Equation it is only a whisper in his ear.[7]
Weaknesses
- Power Limitation: As a Monitor, Mobius's powers will wane greatly on a lower plane of existence but remains strong enough to consume universes.
- Power Loss: Mobius can lose the powers he acquired precedently when he is hit by considerable forces, separating him from the beings he absorbed.[29]
Equipment
- Anti-Life Equation (Formerly)
- Armor: Mobius wears armor which serves as an energy collector, feeding him residual energy that he has absorbed.
Transportation
- Mobius Chair: Mobius was the original wielder of Metron's chair, and had access to all of the device's unique gadgetry and technology. (Formerly)
- Anti-Monitor was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, first appearing in Crisis on Infinite Earths #4. However, in the Prime Earth continuity, Anti-Monitor first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in Green Lantern Corps (Volume 3) #17 by Peter Tomasi and Fernando Pasarin.
- The original Anti-Monitor was born on a moon of Qward rather than on the planet itself.
