Promethium
Promethium is the name given to two metal alloys: "Depleted" and "Volatile" Promethium, the strongest metal in the DC Universe.
History
Promethium
Promethium is an artificial alloy created and patented by Steve Dayton of Dayton Industries. A creation based upon the myth of the ancient Greek Titan Prometheus, Mr. Dayton started on Project: Promethium intent on making indestructible vehicles to prevent accidents on the road for starters. With grander ambitions of using the limitless energies produced by his invention to affect total biological regeneration down the line, stating that in later production it was possible to use Volatile Promethium's infinite energy capacity to effect physical regrowth of damaged or destroyed organic tissue. It's creator also feared that such application's of his work could be used more nefariously as the most diabolical weapon ever conceived, given it's ability to generate limitless energy coupled with the inherent absorption quality; able to amplify stored energy alongside it's own to an infinite degree, which can be used to create an arsenal powerful enough to demolish planets and destroy the universe if it fell into the wrong hands.
Depleted Promethium
When alloyed with titanium and vanadium, it forms a near-invulnerable metal. The bionic and cybernetic components of Cyborg (Victor Stone) are made out of depleted promethium, and Arsenal of the Justice League of America wears a bodysuit that combines both depleted promethium and Kevlar.
Volatile Promethium
Volatile Promethium
Promethium is also capable of channeling, amplifying and perpetuating near-limitless amounts of energy, as such it can be used as a power source for many gadgets or create the most destructive arms imaginable. However, this "volatile promethium" is a dangerous mutagen that can be used to mutate living beings or trigger their metagene. Dayton used it when creating the super-powered criminals known as Hybrid. Deathstroke's mesh armor, sword, and staff are made (either wholly or in part) of volatile promethium, countering its harmful effects with his own healing abilities.

- The Marvel Comics Universe also has a metal called Promethium.
- There is a real life element called promethium, but its properties are nothing like those of the fictional metal.
- Promethium acts as an exaggerated version of uranium.
- Access commented that Promethium is of equivalent resilience to Marvel's Adamantium. Firestorm goes so far as saying even Superman himself couldn't break it.
- Promethium is one of the five metals that catalyze the means to access the Dark Multiverse.
