The book notably has several contradictory elements to the story depicted in the companion novel Aquaman: Undertow, the Aquaman film, and even details established within the book itself. Some of these examples are seen as follows:

• The very first page depicts a library card indicating a history of prior checkouts made for the book "The Mystery of Atlantis", with Arthur Curry as the last borrower in 1999. A few pages later, however, Arthur states that his father gave the book as a gift to him, which aligns with the events portrayed in the Undertow novel.
• Arthur's journal entry claims that no one would sit with him on the bus ride going home from the Boston Aquarium after the incident with the bullies. However, the book Aquaman: Undertow clearly disputes this, showing him being accompanied by Claudia.
