Mackenzie Davis (The Martian, That Awkward Moment) is joining the untitled follow-up to Blade Runner starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista and Carla Juri, among others. As has been the case with most of the film’s castings, there are no details on Davis’ character. Shooting is set to begin in July on the pic from Denis Villenueve, who is directing a script by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. The story picks up several decades after the conclusion of Ridley Scott’s 1982 original. Thunderbird Films CEOs Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble are executive producers along with Scott and Bill Carraro. Warner Bros will open the film from Alcon Entertainment on October 6, 2017. Sony has overseas rights. Vancouver-born Davis debuted in director Drake Doremus’ 2013 independent feature film Breathe In.

Guy Burnet (Ray Donovan) has signed on to Jacob’s Ladder, director David M. Rosenthal’s re-imagining of the 1990 thriller. Burnet will star as Hoffman, a pharmacist at the Veteran’s Administration described as “smart, but chaotic” who supplies Jacob with prescriptions. The LD Entertainment film has a script by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp. Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon and Jennifer Monroe at LD Entertainment will produce alongside Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta of Gaeta/Rosenzweig Films. Burnet will continue his recurring role on Amazon’s Hand of God, and will next appear in Zoe Cassavetes’ dramatic feature Day Out of Days and the German/English film production The Have-Nots. Burnet is repped by Untitled Entertainment, ICM, and Troika.
