Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic (CSN Mid-Atlantic) is a regional sports network that delivers live-game coverage and sports news and entertainment television programming to more than 4.7 million households throughout the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore region of the United States.

The network serves as the official television partner of the Washington Redskins, Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, D.C. United and Washington Mystics, as well as the home of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Colonial Athletic Association.

The network was founded in 1984 as Home Team Sports (HTS), one of the first regional sports networks in the country. Comcast agreed to acquire a two-thirds ownership stake in HTS from Viacom on July 11, 2000.^[1] The transaction was completed seven months later in mid-February 2001.^[2] HTS was relaunched as Comcast SportsNet on April 4, 2001.^[3]

In 2010, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic split its website into two regional websites and rebranded them as Comcast SportsNet Baltimore and Comcast SportsNet Washington. While the websites were rebranded, the Baltimore and Washington markets still show the same programming, and therefore are still collectively known as Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.

Coverage area

Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic is distributed to more than 4.7 million households throughout Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, as well as parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and West Virginia, on 25 cable and satellite providers.

Programming

Live game coverage: Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic provides more than 500 live professional and college sporting events per year. The network serves as the regional rights holder for the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, airing all non nationally exclusive games, as well as D.C. United of Major League Soccer, the Washington Mystics of the WNBA and the Virginia Destroyers of the United Football League. As the official cable partner of the Washington Redskins, the network also has exclusive high-definition rights to televise their preseason games (games airing over broadcast television on WRC-TV are carried only in 480i).

As the region's television home for the Atlantic Coast Conference and Colonial Athletic Association, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic broadcasts numerous men's and women's college sporting events, often featuring Maryland, Virginia Tech and Virginia. The network's coverage of college sports also includes games from the Pac-10 and Big 12 conferences through FOX Sports Net.

News & entertainment programming: Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic provides daily news and entertainment programs that deliver news, analysis and opinion surrounding the region's sports landscape. The network also features special pregame and postgame shows, as well as numerous specials and original programming.

• SportsNet Central - A daily half-hour news program that cover's the region's top sports news, the program airs live at 6:30 p.m., 10 p.m. 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. and replays from 6-9 a.m.
• Washington Post Live - An hour-long program that uses panel discussions, interviews and feature stories to cover all aspects of the area's sports scene. The program, which is hosted by Ivan Carter, airs weekdays at 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
• Redskins Nation - Hosted by Redskins radio voice Larry Michael, this program is deicated exclusively to covering the Washington Redskins. The half-hour show airs weekdays at 5:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Plus

Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic also has an overflow channel named "Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Plus" that broadcasts select sports programming when the main channel is carrying another live event. Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Plus is carried by DirecTV and Dish Network and most cable companies in the region.
