Southern Schleswig
Southern Schleswig is a name for the geographical area covering the thirty or forty northernmost kilometers of Germany, where Germany borders upon Denmark. Together with Northern Schleswig, the southernmost part of Denmark, it constitutes the region of Schleswig. It is situated on the Jutland Peninsula.
In German, the area is simply known as Südschleswig or Landesteil Schleswig. In Danish, the area is known as Sydslesvig.
The German majority in Southern Schleswig does not consider the region any different from the rest of Schleswig-Holstein. This notion is disputed by Danes, particularly Danish historians and the Danish minority of Southern Schleswig.
The major cities of Southern Schleswig are Flensburg, Rendsburg, the city of Schleswig, and Husum.
