Walter Underhill
Walter Underhill (September 12, 1795 - August 17, 1866) was a United States Representative from New York. Born in New York City, he completed preparatory studies, was trustee of the house of refuge, and was treasurer of New York City for several years. He served on the board of managers of the Society for the Reformation of Juvenile Delinquents in the city of New York from 1845 to 1866, serving as treasurer from 1857 to 1866.
Underhill was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-first Congress, holding office from March 4, 1849 to March 3, 1851. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1850, and was president of the Mechanics & Traders' Insurance Co. in New York City, from 1853 until his death in Whitestone, Long Island in 1866; interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, New York City.
