Biofumigation, the Glossary
Biofumigation is a method of pest control in agriculture, a variant of fumigation where the gaseous active substance—fumigant—is produced by decomposition of plant material freshly chopped and buried in the soil for this purpose.[1]

Bacteria
Bacteria (bacterium) are ubiquitous, mostly free-living organisms often consisting of one biological cell.
See Biofumigation and Bacteria
Biosolarization
Biosolarization is an alternative technology to soil fumigation used in agriculture. Biofumigation and Biosolarization are agricultural terminology, Biocides, pest control techniques, soil contamination and soil science.

Brassicaceae
Brassicaceae or (the older) Cruciferae is a medium-sized and economically important family of flowering plants commonly known as the mustards, the crucifers, or the cabbage family.
See Biofumigation and Brassicaceae
Broccoli
Broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) is an edible green plant in the cabbage family (family Brassicaceae, genus Brassica) whose large flowering head, stalk and small associated leaves are eaten as a vegetable.
See Biofumigation and Broccoli
Cash crop
A cash crop, also called profit crop, is an agricultural crop which is grown to sell for profit.
See Biofumigation and Cash crop
Cauliflower
Cauliflower is one of several vegetables cultivated from the species Brassica oleracea in the genus Brassica, which is in the Brassicaceae (or mustard) family.
See Biofumigation and Cauliflower
Crop rotation
Crop rotation is the practice of growing a series of different types of crops in the same area across a sequence of growing seasons.
See Biofumigation and Crop rotation
Cultivar
A cultivar is a kind of cultivated plant that people have selected for desired traits and which retains those traits when propagated.
See Biofumigation and Cultivar

Fumigation
Fumigation is a method of pest control or the removal of harmful microorganisms by completely filling an area with gaseous pesticides, or fumigants, to suffocate or poison the pests within. Biofumigation and Fumigation are pest control techniques.
See Biofumigation and Fumigation
Fungus
A fungus (fungi or funguses) is any member of the group of eukaryotic organisms that includes microorganisms such as yeasts and molds, as well as the more familiar mushrooms.
Glucosinolate
Glucosinolates are natural components of many pungent plants such as mustard, cabbage, and horseradish.
See Biofumigation and Glucosinolate
Hydrogen cyanide
Hydrogen cyanide (formerly known as prussic acid) is a chemical compound with the formula HCN and structural formula. It is a highly toxic and flammable liquid that boils slightly above room temperature, at. HCN is produced on an industrial scale and is a highly valued precursor to many chemical compounds ranging from polymers to pharmaceuticals.

Irrigation
Irrigation (also referred to as watering of plants) is the practice of applying controlled amounts of water to land to help grow crops, landscape plants, and lawns.
See Biofumigation and Irrigation
Isothiocyanate
In organic chemistry, isothiocyanate is a functional group as found in compounds with the formula.
See Biofumigation and Isothiocyanate
Mustard plant
The mustard plant is any one of several plant species in the genera Brassica, Rhamphospermum and Sinapis in the family Brassicaceae (the mustard family).
See Biofumigation and Mustard plant
Nematode
The nematodes (or; Νηματώδη; Nematoda), roundworms or eelworms constitute the phylum Nematoda.
See Biofumigation and Nematode
Pest control
Pest control is the regulation or management of a species defined as a pest; such as any animal, plant or fungus that impacts adversely on human activities or environment.
See Biofumigation and Pest control
Poaceae
Poaceae, also called Gramineae, is a large and nearly ubiquitous family of monocotyledonous flowering plants commonly known as grasses.
Soil
Soil, also commonly referred to as earth or dirt, is a mixture of organic matter, minerals, gases, liquids, and organisms that together support the life of plants and soil organisms. Biofumigation and soil are soil science.
Sorghum
Sorghum bicolor, commonly called sorghum and also known as great millet, broomcorn, guinea corn, durra, imphee, jowar, or milo, is a species in the grass genus Sorghum cultivated for its grain.
Washington State University
Washington State University (WSU) (or colloquially and informally Wazzu) is a public land-grant research university in Pullman, Washington.
