Cheiloceratidae, the Glossary

Index Cheiloceratidae

Cheiloceratidae is a family of ammonoid cephalopods included in the goniatitid suborder Tornoceratina in which the suture has 4 to 12 lobes, the ventral one undivided and those in the lateral areas originating as subdivisions of internal and external lateral saddles.[1]

Ammonoidea

Ammonoids are extinct spiral shelled cephalopods comprising the subclass Ammonoidea.

See Cheiloceratidae and Ammonoidea

Cheiloceratinae

Cheiloceratinae is one of two subfamilies of the Cheiloceratidae family, a member of the Goniatitida order. Cheiloceratidae and Cheiloceratinae are goniatitida stubs.

See Cheiloceratidae and Cheiloceratinae

Devonian

The Devonian is a geologic period and system of the Paleozoic era during the Phanerozoic eon, spanning 60.3 million years from the end of the preceding Silurian period at million years ago (Ma), to the beginning of the succeeding Carboniferous period at Ma.

Goniatite

Goniatids, informally goniatites, are ammonoid cephalopods that form the order Goniatitida, derived from the more primitive Agoniatitida during the Middle Devonian some 390 million years ago (around Eifelian stage).

See Cheiloceratidae and Goniatite

Nehdenitinae

Nehdenitinae is one of two subfamilies of the Cheiloceratidae family, a member of the Goniatitida order. Cheiloceratidae and Nehdenitinae are goniatitida stubs.

See Cheiloceratidae and Nehdenitinae

Permian

The Permian is a geologic period and stratigraphic system which spans 47 million years from the end of the Carboniferous Period million years ago (Mya), to the beginning of the Triassic Period 251.902 Mya.

See Cheiloceratidae and Permian

Prionoceras

Prionoceras is an extinct genus of ammonites. Cheiloceratidae and Prionoceras are goniatitida stubs.

See Cheiloceratidae and Prionoceras

Prionoceratoidea

Prionoceratoidea is a superfamily in the goniatitid suborder, Tornoceratatina that was extant during the latter Paleozoic. Cheiloceratidae and Prionoceratoidea are goniatitida stubs and Prionocerataceae.

See Cheiloceratidae and Prionoceratoidea

Raymondiceratinae

Raymondiceratinae is a subfamily of Upper Devonian cheiloceratid goniatites in which the sutures have 4 distinct lobes and the growth lines are convex. Cheiloceratidae and Raymondiceratinae are goniatitida stubs, late Devonian animals and late Devonian first appearances.

See Cheiloceratidae and Raymondiceratinae

Sporadoceratinae

Sporadoceratinae is one of two subfamilies of the Sporadoceratidae family, a member of the Goniatitida order. Cheiloceratidae and Sporadoceratinae are goniatitida stubs.

See Cheiloceratidae and Sporadoceratinae

Tornoceratidae

Tornoceratidae is a family of goniatitid ammonoids from the middle and upper Devonian. Cheiloceratidae and Tornoceratidae are goniatitida families and late Devonian animals.

See Cheiloceratidae and Tornoceratidae

Tornoceratina

Tornoceratina is one of two suborders included in the Goniatitida, characterized by generally involute, subdiscoidal shells and by sutures in which the ventral ones are undivided. Cheiloceratidae and Tornoceratina are goniatitida stubs and Guadalupian extinctions.

Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology

The Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology (or TIP) published by the Geological Society of America and the University of Kansas Press, is a definitive multi-authored work of some 50 volumes, written by more than 300 paleontologists, and covering every phylum, class, order, family, and genus of fossil and extant (still living) invertebrate animals.
