In elementary algebra, FOIL is a mnemonic for the standard method of multiplying two binomials—hence the method may be referred to as the FOIL method.[1]

Acronym
An acronym is an abbreviation of a phrase that usually consists of the initial letter of each word in all caps with no punctuation.
Algebraic expression
In mathematics, an algebraic expression is an expression built up from constant algebraic numbers, variables, and the algebraic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and exponentiation by an exponent that is a rational number). FOIL method and algebraic expression are elementary algebra.
See FOIL method and Algebraic expression
Associative property
In mathematics, the associative property is a property of some binary operations that means that rearranging the parentheses in an expression will not change the result. FOIL method and associative property are elementary algebra.
See FOIL method and Associative property
Binomial (polynomial)
In algebra, a binomial is a polynomial that is the sum of two terms, each of which is a monomial.
See FOIL method and Binomial (polynomial)
Binomial theorem
In elementary algebra, the binomial theorem (or binomial expansion) describes the algebraic expansion of powers of a binomial.
See FOIL method and Binomial theorem
Distributive property
In mathematics, the distributive property of binary operations is a generalization of the distributive law, which asserts that the equality x \cdot (y + z). FOIL method and distributive property are elementary algebra.
See FOIL method and Distributive property
Elementary algebra
Elementary algebra, also known as college algebra, encompasses the basic concepts of algebra.
See FOIL method and Elementary algebra
Elementary arithmetic
Elementary arithmetic is a branch of mathematics involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. FOIL method and Elementary arithmetic are multiplication.
See FOIL method and Elementary arithmetic
Elementary mathematics
Elementary mathematics, also known as primary or secondary school mathematics, is the study of mathematics topics that are commonly taught at the primary or secondary school levels around the world.
See FOIL method and Elementary mathematics
Factorization
In mathematics, factorization (or factorisation, see English spelling differences) or factoring consists of writing a number or another mathematical object as a product of several factors, usually smaller or simpler objects of the same kind. FOIL method and factorization are elementary algebra.
See FOIL method and Factorization
Like terms
In mathematics, like terms are summands in a sum that differ only by a numerical factor.
See FOIL method and Like terms
Linear function
In mathematics, the term linear function refers to two distinct but related notions.
See FOIL method and Linear function
Main diagonal
In linear algebra, the main diagonal (sometimes principal diagonal, primary diagonal, leading diagonal, major diagonal, or good diagonal) of a matrix A is the list of entries a_ where i.
See FOIL method and Main diagonal
Mnemonic
A mnemonic device or memory device is any learning technique that aids information retention or retrieval in the human memory, often by associating the information with something that is easier to remember.
Monomial
In mathematics, a monomial is, roughly speaking, a polynomial which has only one term.
Negation
In logic, negation, also called the logical not or logical complement, is an operation that takes a proposition P to another proposition "not P", standing for "P is not true", written \neg P, \mathord P or \overline.
Polynomial
In mathematics, a polynomial is a mathematical expression consisting of indeterminates (also called variables) and coefficients, that involves only the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and exponentiation to nonnegative integer powers, and has a finite number of terms.
See FOIL method and Polynomial
Reform mathematics
Reform mathematics is an approach to mathematics education, particularly in North America.
See FOIL method and Reform mathematics
Subtraction
Subtraction (which is signified by the minus sign) is one of the four arithmetic operations along with addition, multiplication and division.
See FOIL method and Subtraction
Trinomial
In elementary algebra, a trinomial is a polynomial consisting of three terms or monomials. FOIL method and trinomial are elementary algebra.
