Iliolumbar ligament, the Glossary
The iliolumbar ligament is a strong ligament which attaches medially to the transverse process of the 5th lumbar vertebra, and laterally to back of the inner lip of the iliac crest (upper margin of ilium).[1]

Anterior longitudinal ligament
The anterior longitudinal ligament is a ligament that extends across the anterior/ventral aspect of the vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs the spine. Iliolumbar ligament and anterior longitudinal ligament are ligaments of the torso.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Anterior longitudinal ligament
Anterior sacroiliac ligament
The anterior sacroiliac ligament consists of numerous thin bands, which connect the anterior surface of the lateral part of the sacrum to the margin of the auricular surface of the ilium and to the preauricular sulcus. Iliolumbar ligament and anterior sacroiliac ligament are ligaments of the torso.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Anterior sacroiliac ligament
Iliac crest
The crest of the ilium (or iliac crest) is the superior border of the wing of ilium and the superiolateral margin of the greater pelvis.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Iliac crest
Iliac fossa
The iliac fossa is a large, smooth, concave surface on the internal surface of the ilium (part of the three fused bones making the hip bone).
See Iliolumbar ligament and Iliac fossa
Iliopectineal line
The iliopectineal line is the border of the iliopubic eminence.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Iliopectineal line
Ilium (bone)
The ilium (ilia) is the uppermost and largest region of the coxal bone, and appears in most vertebrates including mammals and birds, but not bony fish.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Ilium (bone)
Interspinous ligament
The interspinous ligaments (interspinal ligaments) are thin, membranous ligaments that connect adjoining spinous processes of the vertebra in the spine. Iliolumbar ligament and interspinous ligament are ligaments of the torso.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Interspinous ligament
Ligament
A ligament is the fibrous connective tissue that connects bones to other bones.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Ligament
Ligamenta flava
The ligamenta flava (ligamentum flavum, Latin for yellow ligament) are a series of ligaments that connect the ventral parts of the laminae of adjacent vertebrae. Iliolumbar ligament and ligamenta flava are ligaments of the torso.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Ligamenta flava
Lumbar
In tetrapod anatomy, lumbar is an adjective that means of or pertaining to the abdominal segment of the torso, between the diaphragm and the sacrum.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Lumbar
Lumbar vertebrae
The lumbar vertebrae are located between the thoracic vertebrae and pelvis.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Lumbar vertebrae
Lumbosacral joint
The lumbosacral joint is a joint of the body, between the last lumbar vertebra and the first sacral segment of the vertebral column.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Lumbosacral joint
Lumbosacral ligament
The lumbosacral ligament or lateral lumbosacral ligament is a ligament that helps to stabilise the lumbosacral joint. Iliolumbar ligament and lumbosacral ligament are ligaments of the torso.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Lumbosacral ligament
Pelvis
The pelvis (pelves or pelvises) is the lower part of the trunk, between the abdomen and the thighs (sometimes also called pelvic region), together with its embedded skeleton (sometimes also called bony pelvis or pelvic skeleton).
See Iliolumbar ligament and Pelvis
Posterior longitudinal ligament
The posterior longitudinal ligament is a ligament connecting the posterior surfaces of the vertebral bodies of all of the vertebrae of humans. Iliolumbar ligament and posterior longitudinal ligament are ligaments of the torso.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Posterior longitudinal ligament
Psoas major muscle
The psoas major (or; from muscles of the loins) is a long fusiform muscle located in the lateral lumbar region between the vertebral column and the brim of the lesser pelvis.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Psoas major muscle
Quadratus lumborum muscle
The quadratus lumborum muscle, informally called the QL, is a paired muscle of the left and right posterior abdominal wall.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Quadratus lumborum muscle
Sacroiliac joint
The sacroiliac joint or SI joint (SIJ) is the joint between the sacrum and the ilium bones of the pelvis, which are connected by strong ligaments.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Sacroiliac joint
Supraspinous ligament
The supraspinous ligament (also known as the supraspinal ligament) is a ligament extending across the tips of the spinous processes of the vertebra of the vertebral column. Iliolumbar ligament and supraspinous ligament are ligaments of the torso.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Supraspinous ligament
Thoracolumbar fascia
The thoracolumbar fascia (lumbodorsal fascia or thoracodorsal fascia) is a complex, multilayer arrangement of fascial and aponeurotic layers forming a separation between the paraspinal muscles on one side, and the muscles of the posterior abdominal wall (quadratus lumborum, and psoas major) on the other.
See Iliolumbar ligament and Thoracolumbar fascia
Vertebra
Each vertebra (vertebrae) is an irregular bone with a complex structure composed of bone and some hyaline cartilage, that make up the vertebral column or spine, of vertebrates.
