Oocyte selection, the Glossary
Oocyte selection is a procedure that is performed prior to in vitro fertilization, in order to use oocytes with maximal chances of resulting in pregnancy.[1]

Birefringence
Birefringence is the optical property of a material having a refractive index that depends on the polarization and propagation direction of light.
See Oocyte selection and Birefringence
Blastulation
Blastulation is the stage in early animal embryonic development that produces the blastula.
See Oocyte selection and Blastulation
Cleavage (embryo)
In embryology, cleavage is the division of cells in the early development of the embryo, following fertilization.
See Oocyte selection and Cleavage (embryo)
In vitro fertilisation
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a process of fertilisation where an egg is combined with sperm in vitro ("in glass"). Oocyte selection and in vitro fertilisation are Cryobiology, Fertility, Fertility medicine, Human pregnancy, Obstetrics and reproduction.
See Oocyte selection and In vitro fertilisation
Meiosis
Meiosis ((since it is a reductional division) is a special type of cell division of germ cells in sexually-reproducing organisms that produces the gametes, the sperm or egg cells. It involves two rounds of division that ultimately result in four cells, each with only one copy of each chromosome (haploid).
See Oocyte selection and Meiosis
Microscopy
Microscopy is the technical field of using microscopes to view objects and areas of objects that cannot be seen with the naked eye (objects that are not within the resolution range of the normal eye).
See Oocyte selection and Microscopy
Oocyte
An oocyte, oöcyte, or ovocyte is a female gametocyte or germ cell involved in reproduction.
See Oocyte selection and Oocyte
Polar body biopsy
Polar body biopsy is the sampling of a polar body of an oocyte.
See Oocyte selection and Polar body biopsy
Polarized light microscopy
Polarized light microscopy can mean any of a number of optical microscopy techniques involving polarized light.
See Oocyte selection and Polarized light microscopy
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD or PIGD) is the genetic profiling of embryos prior to implantation (as a form of embryo profiling), and sometimes even of oocytes prior to fertilization. Oocyte selection and Preimplantation genetic diagnosis are in vitro fertilisation.
See Oocyte selection and Preimplantation genetic diagnosis
Zona pellucida
The zona pellucida (Latin meaning "transparent zone") is the specialized area surrounding mammalian oocytes (eggs).
See Oocyte selection and Zona pellucida
