Pelvic inlet, the Glossary
The pelvic inlet or superior aperture of the pelvis is a planar surface which defines the boundary between the pelvic cavity and the abdominal cavity (or, according to some authors, between two parts of the pelvic cavity, called lesser pelvis and greater pelvis).[1]

Abdominal cavity
The abdominal cavity is a large body cavity in humans and many other animals that contain organs.
See Pelvic inlet and Abdominal cavity
Arcuate line of ilium
The arcuate line of the ilium is a smooth rounded border on the internal surface of the ilium.
See Pelvic inlet and Arcuate line of ilium
Coccyx
The coccyx (coccyges or coccyxes), commonly referred to as the tailbone, is the final segment of the vertebral column in all apes, and analogous structures in certain other mammals such as horses.
CT scan
A computed tomography scan (CT scan; formerly called computed axial tomography scan or CAT scan) is a medical imaging technique used to obtain detailed internal images of the body.
Iliopectineal line
The iliopectineal line is the border of the iliopubic eminence.
See Pelvic inlet and Iliopectineal line
Pectineal line (pubis)
The pectineal line of the pubis (also pecten pubis) is a ridge on the superior ramus of the pubic bone.
See Pelvic inlet and Pectineal line (pubis)
Pelvic brim
The pelvic brim is the edge of the pelvic inlet. Pelvic inlet and pelvic brim are pelvis.
See Pelvic inlet and Pelvic brim
Pelvic cavity
The pelvic cavity is a body cavity that is bounded by the bones of the pelvis. Pelvic inlet and pelvic cavity are pelvis.
See Pelvic inlet and Pelvic cavity
Pelvic outlet
The lower circumference of the lesser pelvis is very irregular; the space enclosed by it is named the inferior aperture or pelvic outlet. Pelvic inlet and pelvic outlet are pelvis.
See Pelvic inlet and Pelvic outlet
Pelvimetry
Pelvimetry is the measurement of the female pelvis. Pelvic inlet and Pelvimetry are pelvis.
See Pelvic inlet and Pelvimetry
Pelvis
The pelvis (pelves or pelvises) is the lower part of the trunk, between the abdomen and the thighs (sometimes also called pelvic region), together with its embedded skeleton (sometimes also called bony pelvis or pelvic skeleton).
Pubic crest
Medial to the pubic tubercle is the pubic crest, which extends from this process to the medial end of the pubic bone.
See Pelvic inlet and Pubic crest
Pubic symphysis
The pubic symphysis (symphyses) is a secondary cartilaginous joint between the left and right superior rami of the pubis of the hip bones. Pelvic inlet and pubic symphysis are pelvis.
See Pelvic inlet and Pubic symphysis
Sacroiliac joint
The sacroiliac joint or SI joint (SIJ) is the joint between the sacrum and the ilium bones of the pelvis, which are connected by strong ligaments. Pelvic inlet and sacroiliac joint are pelvis.
See Pelvic inlet and Sacroiliac joint
Sacrovertebral angle
The sacrum is curved upon itself and placed very obliquely, its base projecting forward and forming the prominent sacrovertebral angle when articulated with the last lumbar vertebra.
See Pelvic inlet and Sacrovertebral angle
Sacrum
The sacrum (sacra or sacrums), in human anatomy, is a large, triangular bone at the base of the spine that forms by the fusing of the sacral vertebrae (S1S5) between ages 18 and 30.
Sagittal plane
The sagittal plane (also known as the longitudinal plane) is an anatomical plane that divides the body into right and left sections.
See Pelvic inlet and Sagittal plane
