Radicular pain, the Glossary

Index Radicular pain

Radicular pain, or radiculitis (from the), is pain "radiated" along the dermatome (sensory distribution) of a nerve due to inflammation or other irritation of the nerve root (radiculopathy) at its connection to the spinal column.[1]

Arachnoiditis

Arachnoiditis is an inflammatory condition of the arachnoid mater or 'arachnoid', one of the membranes known as meninges that surround and protect the central nervous system.

See Radicular pain and Arachnoiditis

Dermatome (anatomy)

A dermatome is an area of skin that is mainly supplied by afferent nerve fibres from the dorsal root of any given spinal nerve.

See Radicular pain and Dermatome (anatomy)

Intervertebral disc

An intervertebral disc (or intervertebral fibrocartilage) lies between adjacent vertebrae in the vertebral column.

See Radicular pain and Intervertebral disc

Lumbar

In tetrapod anatomy, lumbar is an adjective that means of or pertaining to the abdominal segment of the torso, between the diaphragm and the sacrum.

See Radicular pain and Lumbar

Myelopathy

Myelopathy describes any neurologic deficit related to the spinal cord.

See Radicular pain and Myelopathy

Nerve

A nerve is an enclosed, cable-like bundle of nerve fibers (called axons) in the peripheral nervous system.

See Radicular pain and Nerve

Nerve root

A nerve root (radix nervi) is the initial segment of a nerve leaving the central nervous system.

See Radicular pain and Nerve root

Osteophyte

Osteophytes are exostoses (bony projections) that form along joint margins.

See Radicular pain and Osteophyte

Pain

Pain is a distressing feeling often caused by intense or damaging stimuli.

See Radicular pain and Pain

Radiculopathy

Radiculopathy, also commonly referred to as pinched nerve, refers to a set of conditions in which one or more nerves are affected and do not work properly (a neuropathy).

See Radicular pain and Radiculopathy

Sciatic nerve

The sciatic nerve, also called the ischiadic nerve, is a large nerve in humans and other vertebrate animals.

See Radicular pain and Sciatic nerve

Sciatica

Sciatica is pain going down the leg from the lower back.

See Radicular pain and Sciatica

Spinal disc herniation

A spinal disc herniation is an injury to the intervertebral disc between two spinal vertebrae, usually caused by excessive strain or trauma to the spine.

See Radicular pain and Spinal disc herniation

Vertebral column

The vertebral column, also known as the spinal column, spine or backbone, is the core part of the axial skeleton in vertebrate animals.
