South Sandwich Plate, the Glossary
The South Sandwich Plate or the Sandwich Plate is a small tectonic plate (microplate) bounded by the subducting South American Plate to the east, the Antarctic Plate to the south, and the Scotia Plate to the west.[1]

Antarctic Plate
The Antarctic Plate is a tectonic plate containing the continent of Antarctica, the Kerguelen Plateau, and some remote islands in the Southern Ocean and other surrounding oceans.
See South Sandwich Plate and Antarctic Plate
Back-arc basin
A back-arc basin is a type of geologic basin, found at some convergent plate boundaries.

Convergent boundary
A convergent boundary (also known as a destructive boundary) is an area on Earth where two or more lithospheric plates collide.
See South Sandwich Plate and Convergent boundary
Lithosphere
A lithosphere is the rigid, outermost rocky shell of a terrestrial planet or natural satellite.
See South Sandwich Plate and Lithosphere
Plate tectonics
Plate tectonics is the scientific theory that Earth's lithosphere comprises a number of large tectonic plates, which have been slowly moving since 3–4 billion years ago.
See South Sandwich Plate and Plate tectonics
Scotia Plate
The Scotia Plate is a minor tectonic plate on the edge of the South Atlantic and Southern oceans. South Sandwich Plate and Scotia Plate are geology of the Atlantic Ocean.
See South Sandwich Plate and Scotia Plate
South American Plate
The South American Plate is a major tectonic plate which includes the continent of South America as well as a sizable region of the Atlantic Ocean seabed extending eastward to the African Plate, with which it forms the southern part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. South Sandwich Plate and south American Plate are geology of the Atlantic Ocean.
See South Sandwich Plate and South American Plate
South Sandwich Islands
The South Sandwich Islands (Islas Sandwich del Sur) are a chain of uninhabited volcanic islands in the South Atlantic Ocean.
See South Sandwich Plate and South Sandwich Islands
Southern Ocean
The Southern Ocean, also known as the Antarctic Ocean, comprises the southernmost waters of the world ocean, generally taken to be south of 60° S latitude and encircling Antarctica.
See South Sandwich Plate and Southern Ocean
Subduction
Subduction is a geological process in which the oceanic lithosphere and some continental lithosphere is recycled into the Earth's mantle at convergent boundaries.
