TA-CD, the Glossary
TA-CD is a vaccine developed by the Xenova Group and designed to negate the effects of cocaine, making it suitable for use in treatment of addiction.[1]

Antibody
An antibody (Ab) is the secreted form of a B cell receptor; the term immunoglobulin (Ig) can refer to either the membrane-bound form or the secreted form of the B cell receptor, but they are, broadly speaking, the same protein, and so the terms are often treated as synonymous.
BBC News
BBC News is an operational business division of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) responsible for the gathering and broadcasting of news and current affairs in the UK and around the world.
Blood–brain barrier
The blood–brain barrier (BBB) is a highly selective semipermeable border of endothelial cells that regulates the transfer of solutes and chemicals between the circulatory system and the central nervous system, thus protecting the brain from harmful or unwanted substances in the blood.
See TA-CD and Blood–brain barrier
Cholera
Cholera is an infection of the small intestine by some strains of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.
Cocaine
Cocaine (from, from, ultimately from Quechua: kúka) is a tropane alkaloid that acts as a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant.
Dopamine
Dopamine (DA, a contraction of 3,4-dihydroxyphenethylamine) is a neuromodulatory molecule that plays several important roles in cells.
Mesolimbic pathway
The mesolimbic pathway, sometimes referred to as the reward pathway, is a dopaminergic pathway in the brain.
See TA-CD and Mesolimbic pathway
Nicotine vaccine
Nicotine vaccine is a novel immunological strategy for treating nicotine addiction. TA-CD and nicotine vaccine are vaccines against drugs.
See TA-CD and Nicotine vaccine
Norcocaine
Norcocaine is a minor metabolite of cocaine. TA-CD and Norcocaine are cocaine.
Phases of clinical research
The phases of clinical research are the stages in which scientists conduct experiments with a health intervention to obtain sufficient evidence for a process considered effective as a medical treatment.
See TA-CD and Phases of clinical research
Protein
Proteins are large biomolecules and macromolecules that comprise one or more long chains of amino acid residues.
Reward system
The reward system (the mesocorticolimbic circuit) is a group of neural structures responsible for incentive salience (i.e., "wanting"; desire or craving for a reward and motivation), associative learning (primarily positive reinforcement and classical conditioning), and positively-valenced emotions, particularly ones involving pleasure as a core component (e.g., joy, euphoria and ecstasy).
Substance dependence
Substance dependence, also known as drug dependence, is a biopsychological situation whereby an individual's functionality is dependent on the necessitated re-consumption of a psychoactive substance because of an adaptive state that has developed within the individual from psychoactive substance consumption that results in the experience of withdrawal and that necessitates the re-consumption of the drug.
See TA-CD and Substance dependence
TA-NIC
TA-NIC is a proprietary vaccine in development similar to TA-CD but being used to create human anti-nicotine antibodies in a person to destroy nicotine in the human body so that it is no longer effective. TA-CD and tA-NIC are vaccine stubs, vaccines and vaccines against drugs.
See TA-CD and TA-NIC
Vaccine
A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular infectious or malignant disease. TA-CD and vaccine are vaccines.
