Thermal expansion valve, the Glossary

Index Thermal expansion valve

A thermal expansion valve or thermostatic expansion valve (often abbreviated as TEV, TXV, or TX valve) is a component in vapor-compression refrigeration and air conditioning systems that controls the amount of refrigerant released into the evaporator and is intended to regulate the superheat of the refrigerant that flows out of the evaporator to a steady value.[1]

Air conditioning

Air conditioning, often abbreviated as A/C (US) or air con (UK), is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space to achieve a more comfortable interior temperature (sometimes referred to as 'comfort cooling') and in some cases also strictly controlling the humidity of internal air. Thermal expansion valve and air conditioning are cooling technology.

Compressor

A compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume.

See Thermal expansion valve and Compressor

Evaporator

An evaporator is a type of heat exchanger device that facilitates evaporation by utilizing conductive and convective heat transfer, which provides the necessary thermal energy for phase transition from liquid to vapour.

Heat pump

A heat pump is a device that consumes work (or electricity) to transfer heat from a cold heat sink to a hot heat sink.

Isenthalpic process

An isenthalpic process or isoenthalpic process is a process that proceeds without any change in enthalpy, H; or specific enthalpy, h.

Nitrogen

Nitrogen is a chemical element; it has symbol N and atomic number 7.

Vapor-compression refrigeration

Vapour-compression refrigeration or vapor-compression refrigeration system (VCRS), in which the refrigerant undergoes phase changes, is one of the many refrigeration cycles and is the most widely used method for air conditioning of buildings and automobiles. Thermal expansion valve and vapor-compression refrigeration are cooling technology.
