Time and motion study, the Glossary
A time and motion study (or time-motion study) is a business efficiency technique combining the Time Study work of Frederick Winslow Taylor with the Motion Study work of Frank and Lillian Gilbreth (the same couple as is best known through the biographical 1950 film and book Cheaper by the Dozen).[1]

Economic efficiency
In microeconomics, economic efficiency, depending on the context, is usually one of the following two related concepts.

Ergonomics
Ergonomics, also known as human factors or human factors engineering (HFE), is the application of psychological and physiological principles to the engineering and design of products, processes, and systems. Time and motion study and Ergonomics are industrial engineering.

Evolutionary economics
Evolutionary economics is a school of economic thought that is inspired by evolutionary biology.

Frank Bunker Gilbreth
Frank Bunker Gilbreth (July 7, 1868 – June 14, 1924) was an American engineer, consultant, and author known as an early advocate of scientific management and a pioneer of time and motion study, and is perhaps best known as the father and central figure of Cheaper by the Dozen.

Frederick Winslow Taylor
Frederick Winslow Taylor (March 20, 1856 – March 21, 1915) was an American mechanical engineer.

Industrial engineering
Industrial engineering is an engineering profession that is concerned with the optimization of complex processes, systems, or organizations by developing, improving and implementing integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information and equipment.

Lillian Moller Gilbreth
Lillian Evelyn Gilbreth (May 24, 1878 – January 2, 1972) was an American psychologist, industrial engineer, consultant, and educator who was an early pioneer in applying psychology to time-and-motion studies.

Memo motion
Memo motion or spaced-shot photography is a tool of time and motion study that analyzes long operations by using a camera.
See Time and motion study and Memo motion
Methods engineering
Methods engineering is a subspecialty of industrial engineering and manufacturing engineering concerned with human integration in industrial production processes. Time and motion study and Methods engineering are industrial engineering.
See Time and motion study and Methods engineering
Methods-time measurement
Methods-Time Measurement (MTM) is a predetermined motion time system that is used primarily in industrial settings to analyze the methods used to perform any manual operation or task and, as a product of that analysis, to set the standard time in which a worker should complete that task.
See Time and motion study and Methods-time measurement
Predetermined motion time system
A predetermined motion time system (PMTS) is frequently used to perform Labor Minute Costing in order to set piece-rates, wage-rates and/or incentives in labor (labour) oriented industries by quantifying the amount of time required to perform specific tasks under defined conditions.
See Time and motion study and Predetermined motion time system
Robert F. Hoxie
Robert Franklin Hoxie (April 29, 1868 – June 22, 1916) was an American economist, known for his work on labor history.

Scientific management
Scientific management is a theory of management that analyzes and synthesizes workflows.
See Time and motion study and Scientific management
Standard time (manufacturing)
In industrial engineering, the standard time is the time required by an average skilled operator, working at a normal pace, to perform a specified task using a prescribed method. Time and motion study and standard time (manufacturing) are industrial engineering.
See Time and motion study and Standard time (manufacturing)
Standard time in manufacturing
Standard time is the amount of time that should be allowed for an average worker to process one work unit using the standard method and working at a normal pace. Time and motion study and standard time in manufacturing are industrial engineering.
See Time and motion study and Standard time in manufacturing
Stopwatch
A stopwatch is a timepiece designed to measure the amount of time that elapses between its activation and deactivation.
