Basalt is an aphanitic (fine-grained) extrusive igneous rock formed from the rapid cooling of low-viscosity lava rich in magnesium and iron (mafic lava) exposed at or very near the surface of a rocky planet or moon. Wadi (wādī), alternatively wād (وَاد), Maghrebi Arabic Oued) is the Arabic term traditionally referring to a river valley. In some instances, it may refer to a wet (ephemeral) riverbed that contains water only when heavy rain occurs. Arroyo (Spanish) is used in the Americas for similar landforms.
