Sandon Fete[1] In Staffordshire[2] was established in 1947 by local Royal British Legion[3] members. The local branch of the Royal British Legion formed a dedicated group of organizers which were known as the "Fete Committee". A volunteer Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer were appointed, along with other committee members who were mainly ex-military. The venue for the Fete was to be the local Cricket field and the village club room which sits alongside it.

Monthly meetings were held to organize the event by the Fete Committee in Sandon Parish Room. They started in January of each year and concluded in early August, just prior to the event being held. Sandon Fete has been an annual event it started in 1947, and was traditionally held on the second Saturday of every August.

An official opening took place at 2pm and was carried out by local dignitaries, which often included Lord Harrowby[4] and Viscount Sandon.[5] The opening took place on a wooden stage which was decorated by plants and flowers.

Attractions to the event included a Tombola, White Elephant and Bookstall, Raffle, and Games such as "Bowling for a Pig", and Children's Sports which featured; Sack racing, Two-legged races, and Egg and Spoon racing. The running lanes were formed from a string around 100m in length and laid onto the ground between two wooden pegs, pulling them tight.

The Fete started raising funds for ex-military personnel and their families. The families could benefit in small ways such as "Christmas Comforts" or small monetary donations which local committee members would agree.
