Planá (German: Plan) is a municipality and village in České Budějovice District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 300 inhabitants.

The word planá meant 'barren', but it also denoted a wide, open landscape.[2]

Planá is located about 4 kilometres (2 mi) southwest of České Budějovice. It lies in the České Budějovice Basin. The Vltava river forms the southern and eastern municipal borders.

The first written mention of Planá is from 1259.[2] Between 1961 and 1990, it was an administrative part of Homole. Since 24 November 1990, it has been a separate municipality.[3]
