My talk page as a wiki page (link for mobile beta)

I'm Mark A. Mandel, until November 2013 a research administrator at the Linguistic Data Consortium of the University of Pennsylvania, now retired. I sometimes style myself

Dr. Whom, Consulting Linguist, Grammarian, Orthoëpist, and Philological Busybody

I am still interested in languages, as well as folk music, filk music, science fiction, and other things. Including my cat.

I wrote my dissertation on American Sign Language (Ph.D. in Linguistics, University of California at Berkeley), and I've studied lots more languages to a greater or lesser degree. Languages I've worked with in recent years* include Thai, Tagalog, Pashto, Tigrinya, Moroccan Berber, Yoruba, Bengali, Tamil, and Urdu. I also developed and maintained the LDC's Language Resource Wiki (now defunct).[1]

* But do not speak or write; those are here. ⇒
(Or there ⇑ if you're reading this on the mobile site.)

Wikipeda favicon for desktop

[edit]

I just created File:Wikipedia W favicon on white background.png from the official File:Wikipedia's W.svg so I could use it on my personal desktop, and uploaded it to Commons so anyone else can use it, too. ☺ Not under any copyright, but note potential trademark limitations.

Pages significantly copyedited

[edit]

Note: I didn't stop "significant" copyediting in November 2018, I just quit logging it here. If you're really interested in my editing history (which I seriously doubt), you can look it up in my contribution list, although that won't distinguish copyedits from significant content edits. (14:21, 17 May 2021 (UTC))

Latest on top. Also, lots more since my first edits, before I started listing them.

Going back to 1 February 2014, though I did plenty before then

(Again, latest on top, and since I started listing them. Once I'm done, I move 'em from here to the appropriate ↑ ↓ other section of this page. That is, if I finish them and if I remember to move them.)

Other significant edits

[edit]

Oh, heck, for a year I've just been putting them under copyediting or not bothering to list them at all.

(Similarly...)

  • In MobileBeta front end, clicking in TOC does not go to a subsection whose parent section is unexpanded on the page. (15.04.05)
  • mobile beta: warning icon ⚠, truncated, is triplicated at the top of a page where it appears (15.02.13)
  • Mobile beta: "Speech balloons" icon on user talk page misgenerates target page name and reports "no conversations" (14.11.15)

Well, I think so. That's not a condemnation.
