Borrowed from Spanish camarada (“comrade”), from cámara (“chamber”) derived from Latin camera (“chamber”).

- Unlike English comrade and its cognates in other languages, Italian camerata was frequently used as a term of address among fascists and is thus more associated in current use with right wing rather than left wing circles, in which compagno is used.
