Inherited from Ottoman Turkish لنگر (lenger), itself from Persian لنگر (langar, “anchor”).

lenger (definite accusative lengeri, plural lengerler)

1. (nautical) anchor, a tool used to moor a vessel to the bottom of the sea

   Synonyms: çıpa, demir

2. kind of flat, large and broad tray, usually made of copper
3. (by extension) the amount that such a vessel can hold, trayful
