Inherited from Ottoman Turkish لنگر (lenger), itself from Persian لنگر (langar, “anchor”).
lenger (definite accusative lengeri, plural lengerler)
- (nautical) anchor, a tool used to moor a vessel to the bottom of the sea
- kind of flat, large and broad tray, usually made of copper
- (by extension) the amount that such a vessel can hold, trayful
