Formed from the root si (“to lean on”) (as in Sanskrit श्रयते (śrayate)) by adding the prefix ni-. Formally corresponds to post-Vedic Sanskrit निश्रयते (niśrayate), but this appears to be a parallel development.[1]
nissayati (root si, first conjugation)
- to lean on, to rest on
- to have as a foundation
