Australia: Montaigne to Eurovision 2020 - Eurovoix

Montaigne has won Eurovision 2020: Australia Decides and will represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam with the song “Don’t Break Me”.

The live final of Eurovision 2020 – Australia Decides took place today on the Gold Coast. During the show, there were performances from Kate Miller-Heidke (Australia 2019), Dami Im (Australia 2016) and Måns Zelmerlöw (Eurovision 2015 winner). Jon Ola Sand, the outgoing Executive Supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest, also made an appearance during the show.

The winner was chosen by 50% jury voting and 50% public voting. The jury consisted of:

  • Josh Martin – SBS Commissioning Editor for Entertainment and Australia’s Head of Delegation at Eurovision.
  • Kate Miller-Heidke – Australian representative at Eurovision 2019.
  • Måns Zelmerlöw – winner of Eurovision 2015.
  • Milly Petriella – APRA AMCOS Director of Member Relations
  • Paul Clarke – Director of Blink TV and Creative Director of Eurovision and Australia Decides.

The results are as follows (jury + public vote):

  1. iOTA – Life 32 points (19 +13) 9th
  2. Jordan-Ravi – Pushing Stars 23 points (11 + 12) 10th
  3. Jaguar Jonze – Rabbit Hole 46 points (18 +28) 6th
  4. Jack Vidgen – I Am King I Am Queen 34 points (19 +15) 8th
  5. Vanessa Amorosi – Lessons Of Love 82 points (42 +40) 3rd
  6. Diana Rouvas – Can We Make Heaven 42 points (24 +18) 7th
  7. Mitch Tambo – Together 57 points (24 +33) 5th
  8. Casey Donovan – Proud 100 points (40 +60) 2nd
  9. Montaigne – Don’t Break Me 107 points (54 +53) 1st
  10. Didirri – Raw Stuff 63 points (39 +24) 4th

Montaigne will perform in the first half of the first semi-final on May 12.

Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Australia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 as part of celebrations marking 60 years of the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster SBS has broadcast Eurovision in Australia since 1983. Australia’s best result to date came in 2016 Australia when Dami Im, with the song “Sound of Silence,” finished in 2nd place in the final scoring 511 points, just 23 points away from victory.

He also follows other Eurovision contests, such as the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which he has watched since the very first edition in 2003.
