This article identifies two common alleles of PHYTOCHROME C as major determinants of flowering time variation in Arabidopsis thaliana. This represents a significant addition to the small number of cases where the molecular basis of adaptive natural variation is known and provides another illustration of the power of Arabidopsis thaliana as a model for addressing these kinds of questions.
