Reinhardt

“I see... So you really are serious about this... It's exactly as Bishop Saias said. You have indeed grown up—that's clear to me now. You've become a formidable woman, Olwen. I'm proud of you. This is the last time I'll be able to treat you as my little sister, and not as my enemy.”
—Reinhardt to Olwen, when they meet on the battlefield
Reinhardt is an enemy character from Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. Said to be the second coming of the Crusader Thrud, he is a noble and became a general at a very young age. He has been Ishtar's personal guardian since her childhood and is her first in command of the Gelben Ritter in the Friege army. He is also the older brother of Olwen, who initially admires him. Kempf despises him out of envy and views him as a rival. [1]
Profile[]
Reinhardt first appears at Ishtar's side when she arrives in Leonster to ask Bishop Saias to aid Prince Julius, who has fallen ill. In Chapter 21x, Julius reveals that he has noticed Reinhardt's romantic feelings for Ishtar, and out of jealousy, he orders her to remove him from his position. In the following chapter, Reinhardt speaks with Saias, who mentions Olwen's defection to Leif's army. He is certain that Olwen is being manipulated until Saias states that she has found her own path in life. Afterwards, he leads the Gelben Ritter into a battle against the Liberation Army at the Great River of Thracia.
If Olwen speaks to Reinhardt during the chapter, he attempts to persuade her to leave the Liberation Army, but to no avail. As a parting gift, he gives Olwen the Blessed Sword, which was in turn given to him by Ishtar. He is then killed or captured by Leif's army after combat.
Personality[]
A paragon of professionalism and honor among Friege's knights, Reinhardt is an honorable leader who understands the horrors of war. He is a seemingly confident, stoic man who holds respect for those whom he comes across in war, be they friend or foe; however, this honor and confidence is a façade that masks the doubt he has in the path he has chosen, a façade that he might have taken on as to not impact his fellow knights' morale. He holds immense respect and love for his sister Olwen, with his own doubt only serving to improve his impression of her despite her siding with the enemy, with him observing that she has chosen the path of good.
In spite of his common sense, Reinhardt, similarly to Camus, loves his motherland to the point where he will disregard what he may believe is the right path, in favor of continuing to serve his friend Ishtar, and his motherland of Friege, until his dying breath. He even regrets fighting against Leif's army, requesting forgiveness when he enters combat against them.
He holds immense respect for Ishtar (out of appreciation for her skill with thunder magic) as well as Saias (for his tactical prowess), and it is revealed that he has seen the former as more than a friend. It is never known how he feels about Julius beyond the typical jealousy, due to his code of honor preventing him from objecting Julius's order to separate him from Ishtar.

In terms of one-on-one combat, Reinhardt is probably the strongest boss in the game. He has four powerful skills, a Dire Thunder tome, a Meisterschwert, five leadership stars, five movement stars, a FCM of 2 (an utter rarity among bosses), and high stats to boot. If you have been using Olwen with the Vantage + Dire Thunder combo, Reinhardt has that too, but he is stronger than her thanks to his skills.
Reinhardt will not attack his sister Olwen, so first have her talk to Reinhardt to obtain the Blessed Sword. After this, based on Olwen's stats, she could potentially defeat Reinhardt by herself. If not, it is advisable to inflict Reinhardt with some kind of stat condition (have the status inflicter be boosted by the Magic Up Staff or Pure Water) and finish him off. Because Cowen possesses a Berserk, the player should have access to status conditions so long as Tina has enough magic to steal it after receiving a magic boost. A berserked Reinhardt could theoretically destroy his entire battalion and even capture Cowen. When and if he is defeated, usually as a result of ballista shots, what remains of his squadron will leave the field .
If neither option is suitable, you should boost Tina's magic with a Magic Up Staff and have her steal his Dire Thunder so you can finish him off with ranged attacks. Another option is to put Mareeta in range to attack him with Mareeta's Sword. Since it has Nihil, it will disable his skills.
Another way to weaken him is to use a character with no weapons or items to act as bait for Reinhardt. Reinhardt will capture them which will lower his stats, allowing him to be defeated easier. However, this risks losing a unit if Reinhardt manages to escape.

Reinhardt has one of the most infamous reputations in Heroes as a widely used and powerful player turn character. While his Spd may not cry out offensive powerhouse, has Atk is strong enough to make full usage of his personal tome that is the cornerstone to his presence in the Heroes meta. Despite its evolution and many new character receiving fancier weapons, he has maintained a comfortable spot as one of the most powerful and easily accessible Blue Tome units and is especially powerful thanks to his status as a cavalier unit as well. It also does not help that his easy access makes him an excellent budget unit to make. His later Resplendent form gives him some much needed bonus stats to bring him more up to speed into the Book V roster and beyond.
While he shares Dire Thunder with his sister for a personal weapon, Reinhardt's higher Atk makes his attacks more powerful than Olwen, but he does trade this off for not being able to potentially quad attack with the tome. Given their respective Spd, it is unlikely that Olwen can quad attack her opponent to grant her a higher damage output, thus many prefer Reinhardt as a result since not only is he more accessible, but also his Spd is so low that the Spd penalty Dire Thunder inflicts, -5 Spd, hardly changes up his match ups. In his case, Reinhardt can deal two consecutive 41 neutral Atk in magic damage to his opponents, thus bringing it to a base 82 damage not factoring skills. Very few units in the beginning could survive this and many Red, Colorless, and even Blue units do not like being at the receiving end of this attack.
Reinhardt comes with Blazing Thunder, a moderately powerful AOE special attack, but overall would rather have raw attack boosts to obliterate his enemies. He runs Vantage, which has its uses, but unfortunately Dire Thunder does not keep its effects in the enemy turn, thus he can use it only to finish off a target he failed to deal with and is weak enough to use it. Finally he has Goad Cavalry, a great supportive option if placing him on a Horse team. Due to his ease of access since he can be pulled at 3 and 4-Star while his sister is a 5-Star exclusive, Reinhardt is a fairly common unit found in Arenas and is a top tier character as a result.
Counters[]
Reinhardt is much more easily dispatched on the enemy turn by most direct fighters since he cannot counter attack him. His low speed mean that a majority of characters can double him if they either survive his onslaught or get to him first and his average Def and Res means that many hyper offensive characters and strong characters can double him. Defensive green units like Gatekeeper, Deirdre, and Yune easily take care of him, even when he tries to take advantage of his strengths. High resistance units also can weather his attacks and retaliate strongly. Ronan is a good example of a hard Reinhardt counter in this regard. Finally, as a Cavalry, most units with Cavalry slaying weapons like Duo Ephraim, Micaiah, and Yarne can easily take him out. Brave Micaiah is one of his strongest counters as she has the unit effectiveness plus color advantage.
Skill Inheritance Options[]
First and foremost Death Blow is an absolute must for Reinhardt to maximize his player turn damage. A +Atk IV Reinhardt with Death Blow can reach a base attack of 50 that has the brave Effect, leaving few units who can survive that much raw damage. Luna is an overall better attacking skill for Reinhardt as his attacks quickly charge it, letting him dispatch foes quicker. However, Moonbow can be used especially in conjunction with Quickened Pulse for his seal to allow his first round of combat to activate it. While it isn't on many units, Attack Resistance Far Trace is his most viable B-Slot option, as it allows him to dart in and out of enemy range. Hone Cavalry can substitute Goad Cavalry to assist cavalry allies with its stat increase without them needing to stick to him, but Attack Resistance Menace will give him the most damage overall. Finally, Reposition is his best support skill for unit placement manipulation.

Base Set[]
Thunder's Sword Reinhardt, sometimes referred to in the fanbase as Swordhardt, is an alternative version of Reinhardt available in the normal summoning pool. Instead of a tome, Sword Reinhardt is a sword cavalry unit who essentially remains largely the same to his tome form stat wise. He retains a moderate Atk stat at 35 but low Spd at 23. He has slightly higher mixed bulk as well, but neither are particularly high enough to completely ward off most attacks. Unlike his base form, Sword Reinhardt is not hard locked to a player turn character, but he certainly retains many of the same strengths his base form has, but is noted particularly for having a much more flexible mix phase performance.
Meisterschwert, like Dire Thunder, drops his Spd down by 5, but he is hardly affected by this drop since in exchange, he is able to attack twice, regardless of who initiates combat. In some ways, this makes him better than his base form since this actually improves both phases unlike Dire Thunder's hard lock to the player turn's initiation to get the double attack. It also later gained a refine which, if his foe has at least 50% of their max HP at the start of combat, he decreases their Atk by 5 while increasing his own Atk by 5. More damage from his attacks and damage reduction from an enemy is never a bad thing for Sword Reinhardt. It also gives an incentive to initiate combat since if he does so, he stops the enemy from performing a follow-up attack.
Pavise reduces damage inflicted by foes who attack him by 50% on the attack that this skill activates. Death Blow grants him +6 Atk if he initiates combat and does stack on the Refined Meisterschwert boost as well. Vantage allows him to counterattack before his foe attacks if he starts combat with at most 75% of his max HP. Spur Attack Defense grants Atk/Def+3 to adjacent allies in-combat.
Counters[]
Despite the terrific bonuses that Meisterschwert affords, it still hampers Sword Reinhardt's Spd enough that any unit with at least 23 Spd can naturally double him, thus leaving a wide range to do so. Many blue units can take full advantage of this and the fact that they have color advantage over him. His overall bulk is decent enough to take a hit or two from any non-nuking character, but it is not enough to compensate for the follow-up attacks during his enemy's turn which Meisterschwert does not negate. As a cavalry unit, he is quite susceptible to cavalry effective weapons, most notably base form Micaiah who has the color advantage and a ton of sheer power from her Thani tome.
Skill Inheritance[]
Reposition is the best Assist skill to fill his only empty skill slot in his base kit. Luna can charge quickly under his sword's effect thus he can attack while ignoring 50% of his foe's Def. Sol can also work as a means for him to maintain his HP, though this Special does have some conflicts with Vantage if running that skill. Because of Meisterschwert's ability to give Sword Reinhardt a guaranteed double attack even in the foe's turn, he can take Distant Counter to ensure that no enemy can engage him without risking taking a counterattack. Skill C is flexible enough to take a host of skills such as Wave Skills, Smoke Skills, and even cavalry skills if used on a cavalry focused team.
