Samson is a unit that seem good on paper but in practice ends up only being barely better than Bartz. At first glance, his bases, skillset and high joining level makes him a unit that is very appealing to newcomers. The main issue with him is that he comes in a Map 11, which is an optional Map. If the player wishes to, they can delay playing Map 11 up until they reach Blaad, and can subsequently trivialize Map 11 by teaching a couple of Infantry units, like Holmes and Vega, Mountaineer.
If Samson joins after playing Map 11 late, then he only has one chapter to contribute: Map 16. Frontiersman means that he has improved hitrates against Mogals and doesn't slow down your team. Beyond that however, Samson struggles to keep up as Vega, Shigen and Lionel outclass him by the time he comes. His problems only get further magnified overtime, as Runan's route is centered around Mounted and Flier-type units while Holmes Route is made faster through the influx of powerful units like Sherra, Renee and Yoda.

Etymology[]
Samson was a ruler of Israel during the book of Judges. Because he was a nazirite (one devoted to God), he was forbidden to cut his hair. He was given great strength by God due to his devotion. He did many famous things, like killing 2,000 men with the jawbone of a donkey, but perhaps a more famous story is "Samson and Delilah". Delilah tricked Samson into telling her why he's so strong (it's because of his long hair). In the night, she got a guy to cut his hair and told the Phillistine army to capture Samson. He fell prisoner due to lack of strength and being blind. However, over time, Samson's hair grew back, and he asked God if he can give him back his strength so he can unleash one last blow on the Phillistines and so he can die with them. It occurred, and the building he was chained to fell down and killed many people.
