September 6th: Ancient History
Once upon a time there was a label. Tommy Boy Records. They had a contest. Some people entered. Some people won. The winning tracks were a hit. The winning tracks were never released.

No one could have cleared all of the samples.

The tracks were a major radio hit for a while but eventually faded into obscurity. Condemmed to an existance on bootleg vinyls and mix tapes, they weren't something most people were ever going to be able to hear (although attentive FM4 listeners should recognize them).

Times have changed, distribution is easier, and the web is here to make sure everyone knows the music is available. Of course todays webtip isn't just a link to the files of the Lesson series. It's also a convenient little resource for the historically inclined or notoriously curious to get a glimpse into a bit of HipHop history.

September 5th: California
has been having a tough time latley. Brown Outs, and fiscal fiascos are just the tip of the iceberg. In an attempt to right the wrongs that many think have been done by the current governor, californians are being asked to partak in what may be the most amazing media spectacle since bonzo went to washington.

Arnie wants to rule the state.

THis has freaked some people out. Others find it to be the most fitting candidacy EVER. Whatever you may think, it will most likely keep the media (and me) busy for at least the next 15 minutes.

welovearnold.com is sort of clearing house of information on the man who won't go away.

So if you want to keep up on the progress of the second most famous austrian ever, stop by at www.welovearnold.com

September 4th: Some of You
may have been following the escalating war of words and legislation going on between consumers and the music industry as represented by the R.I.A.A.

Not all that long ago they R.I.A.A. started announcing lawsuits against individual filesharers, and not just against companies and institutions. That action has prompted some pretty heavy reaction from the consumers, including some evil parodies like todays webtips.

I will warn you now, if you are easily offended, have a light stomache, or find bad horror films to be an insult to your intelligence than you may want to skip this little film.

Otherwise, have fun.

September 3rd: Im always amazed
at how game addiction works. It seems as though some of the most simple games are the ones that are most addictive. Anbody for tetris? Or Crystal Quest? Rogue?

I don't know if I would go so far as to say Space Dudes will ever qualify as a classic, but it IS a tempting tool for advanced procrastination.

September 2nd: Machfeld
Has been a webtip before. This isn't about their usual collection of goodies though. Nope.

It's a hunt. And you can take part. Sign up at the pioneer homepage to track down open wlan networks in vienna. You'll get a PSU (pioneer scanning unit) with which you can run around the city finding and marking wifi networks. The results will then be collected and a map made for all to see.

So get a good pair of shoes, sign yourself up and meet me in the streets.

While you're there, check out the rest of the projects Machfeld is working. They've been a pretty busy bunch of bees.
