Deoksugung Palace, a compound of buildings where various Korean royals resided until Japanese colonization of Korea, is one of the famous tourist attractions in Korea. Inside its compound, there is a three-story, colonial-style stone structure called Seokjojeon, which was the last Western-style structure built under Gojong, the 26th king of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).
Recently, the original structure and layout of the walls, hallways, and arched windows were found and Seokjojeon is ready to return to its original form.
When construction is complete, hopefully by October 2012, it will be transformed into a museum of “the Korean Empire.”
