- ️Wed Jun 06 2018
Another 43 villages in Moldova will have access to fiber optics. There will be invested MDL 45 million at this stage. Thus, all localities in Moldova will be covered with fiber optics.
This and other provisions are contained in the Broadband Development Programme for 2018 – 2020 and in Action Plan for its implementation, approved today by Government.
The documents set out measures to be taken for development of new generation national electronic communications networks with national coverage so that penetration rate of broadband access services will reach level of EU countries.
The programme provides that all localities in Moldova will be connected to broadband networks by speed of at least 30 Mbps by 2020. Also, it will increase number of households with high – speed Internet access up to 60 per cent.
"We have to make it clear that it is mobile networks – this programme goal is to reach every locality with fiber optics because there are localities where it is not profitable for operators to activate and this support will be provided throughout the programme, emphasised Prime Minister, Pavel Filip.
In this respect, existing electronic communications networks on copper cables will be upgraded to provide broadband access with a higher rate of data transfer.
The programme implementation will increase access of population to advanced electronic services, increase efficiency of public administration and facilitate interaction of government, industry and civil society. Similarly, it will be reduced gap between rural and urban areas.
According to National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), 49 per cent of households currently have broadband Internet access.
