Midnighters Squadron
The Midnighters Squadron (ミッドナイターズ隊 Middonaitāzu Tai; aka "The Midnighters"?) is a Principality of Zeon's mobile suit unit featured in the ONA Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance[1].
Background[]
An elite MS unit well known within the Zeon military[1], the Midnighters were active in Eastern European front against the Earth Federation Forces in the late stage of the One Year War. Led by 1st Lt. Loft, all four members of squadron pilot the MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom.
History[]
The Midnighters Squadron has been performing night time aerial reconnaissance missions deep inside E.F.F.-occupied territories in central Romania circa November, U.C. 0079. When Cpt. Iria Solari and co. were on their way to infiltrate an E.F.F. military base near the Olt for their GM-jack operation, their E.F.F. armored vehicle was under attack by a pair of air-bound Gouf Customs, Solari recognized the Goufs belonged to the Midnighters and attempted to communicate in vain to stop their attacks. Solari and co. narrowly escape death by pretending their vehicle was destroyed, and the Midnighters Goufs flied away soon afterwards[1].
After the Zeon Armed Force lost the battle against the E.F.F. and eventually its major stronghold in Odessa on November 7, U.C. 0079[2], the Midnighters Squadron was later assigned to dispel the intruding Guntanks and GMs from overwhelming the city and bombarding its space port so retreating friendly forces can return to space via HLVs. The Midnighters received unexpected support from Solari when she volunteered to fight with the Midnighters for safe passage of Maj. Rolph Ronet's convoy to the HLV launch site. Despite losing squad mate Anessa, the combined effort of Midnighters and Solari warded off E.F.F.'s attack for the last HLV to leave, as well as defeated the Gundam EX and killed its pilot. As their mission completed, the Midnigters and their mobile suits boarded the last Zanzibar crusier and returned to Space[3].
