Holly Blackbird

Rubeus Hagrid: "This here is Holly Blackbird. She's a witch from the Magical Congress o' the United States of America! Her specialty is protectin' Hodags from Muggles!"
Holly Blackbird: "Well, hey der! Mr Hagrid here was just telling me about how ya helped him with a Hodag. Ya see, it's my job to take that Hodag back to Wisconsin where it belongs! Though... ya don't seem mighty pleased right now..."
Rubeus Hagrid introducing Blackbird to Jacob's sibling[src]

Madam Holly Blackbird was an American witch that worked for the Body for Protection of Magical Species[3] in the Magical Congress of the United States of America, whose specialty was protecting Hodags from No-Majes.[1]

Biography[]

"I was even in Thunderbird House at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!"
— Holly Blackbird regarding her education[src]

In her youth, she attended Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she was sorted into Thunderbird House. Her wand was a family heirloom that was crafted by Shikoba Wolfe, that had a Thunderbird tail feather core and was highly valuable.[2]

She once caught Corrine Cribb trying to sneak into a Hodag reserve in Wisconsin.[1]

Jacob's sibling meeting Blackbird and Hagrid outside Hagrid's hut

In the 1988–1989 school year, Blackbird travelled to the Magical Creatures Reserve in Scotland to take a Hodag back to Wisconsin. She met Rubeus Hagrid outside his hut and was informed by Hagrid about how Jacob's sibling had prior helped him handle the Hodag. When Jacob's sibling caught up to them, they told them how Cribb had just stolen the Hodag in question in the Forest Grove, and Blackbird went with them to retrieve it from her. She duelled Corrine to get the Hodag back from her in the Magical Creatures Reserve, and defeated her, knocking her unconscious. She was originally against the idea of letting the Hodag stay at the Magical Creatures Reserve, but she eventually agreed to do so.[1]

In the 1989–1990 school year, Holly was again contacted by Hagrid to come to Hogwarts to resolve the issue of an angry Thunderbird at the centre of a storm. Hagrid and Holly met Jacob's sibling at the Magical Creatures Reserve, where she questioned them about their knowledge of Thunderbirds, to see if they were ready for the task at hand. Afterwards they set off into their sky on broomsticks from the Training Grounds to travel to the centre of the storm, using the Shield Charm to protect themselves from rain. When they found the Thunderbird, Holly realised it was being provoked by someone.[2]

The Thunderbird let them to the Forest Lake in the Forbidden Forest, where they encountered Todd Cribb, a wizard who was using Metelojinx to provoke the Thunderbird so it shed its tail feathers, which he wanted to make counterfeit wands from. He also addressed himself as "Prospero", the name of a fictional wizard from The Tempest that Holly informed Jacob's sibling of. When confronted, Holly was prepared to fight Cribb, but her Thunderbird tail feather wand failed on her, meaning Jacob's sibling had to defeat him instead. After his scheme was thwarted, he revealed he was Corrine's husband and Holly arrested him, taking him to the British Ministry of Magic. Afterwards, Holly met Jacob's sibling for a party with various animals in Rubeus Hagrid's garden.[2]
