For my next trick, I will compare this gritty noir to the 1970 domestic character study Diary of a Mad Housewife even though these two films have absolutely nothing in common apart from basic stuff like "shot on 35mm" and "actors speak dialogue."

So look: I choose to evaluate Roar not as a narrative feature but as an amazing documentary about Melanie Griffith barely avoiding having her face eaten off. ("I never thought lions would eat my face," sobs future Oscar nominee who willingly shared a film set with dozens of untrained big cats.)
