PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct a high density video recording for a long time and to surely correspond the contents of the video signals to added data. SOLUTION: Video signals from plural video cameras 101 are taken in while successively switching them by a multiplexer 103. A frame synthesizing section 1 reduces the taken in video signals to generate reduced video signals and these reduced video signals are assembled into slave screens to generate synthesized video signals. A CPU 3 generates added data relative to the reduced video signals of each slave screen, maintains the correspondence relation between the reduced video signals and the added data and records the synthesized video signals and the added data on the same video cassette tape 7. Thus, the video signals from plural video cameras are recorded with a higher density and a long time recording is made possible. By using the added data, desired reduced video signals are retrieved from the recorded synthesized video signals and the contents of the retrieved reduced video signals are analyzed.
