Ahmad Zubair

"Please, I'm not a terrorist. I have a family, children. I am a good man."
―Ahmad Zubair to William Rawlins[src]

Ahmad Zubair (Pashto: احمد زبیر) was an officer of the Afghan National Police who cooperated with Dinah Madani with an investigation into Afghan heroin smuggling. When Zubair uncovered that a CIA operation known as Cerberus was responsible for the heroin smuggling, he was branded a "terrorist" by CIA Agent William Rawlins and captured by his Cerberus Squad. Despite Zubair insisting upon his innocence, Rawlins ordered Frank Castle to execute him.

Zubair worked in the Afghan National Police during the war in Afghanistan. Partnered with Dinah Madani from the Homeland Security, he assisted in investigating heroin smuggling in Kandahar. He relayed to Madani that he had discovered some criminal activity and that Americans were involved, and was also assured protection for his testimony.

However, Zubair was then painted as a "terrorist" by William Rawlins, captured by the Cerberus Squad and tortured into revealing whom he told about the Operation Cerberus. When he was deemed to be useless by Ray Schoonover and Rawlins, they ordered Zubair's death, carried out by Frank Castle. Under the orders of Rawlins, his body was buried out in the deserts of Afghanistan by Castle and Gunner Henderson.[2]

Search for Justice[]

"I resent that no one wants the truth."
"I just want you to be sure that this case of yours isn't just a way to avoid dealing with losing someone you were close to."
"I didn't lose anyone. They killed him. I told Ahmad he could trust us. Told him he could trust me."
Dinah Madani and Farah Madani[src]

Zubair's body was eventually discovered, but the authorities were unable to get the details about his death, as Castle had removed the bullet from his skull. Madani started her own investigation to find out what happened with Zubair. She received an anonymous tip with the footage of his execution. However, the footage was stolen and Madani was pulled out from Afghanistan by Homeland Security, so she returned to New York City to continue her investigation.

During her investigation, Madani was able to connect Zubair's execution and the heroin smuggling operation with Frank Castle and his old military squad.[3] Madani was approached by Micro, who was the one who had sent her the footage of Zubair's execution. Micro told her everything about Operation Cerberus and William Rawlins, who had ordered Castle to murder Zubair.[4] Castle gave his testimony to Homeland Security, exposing Rawlins and his operation and taking the blame for Zubair's murder.[5] After Rawlins' death, the CIA and Homeland Security changed the narrative to keep Castle out of the story and Marion James personally asked Madani to keep Rawlins' participation out of the record to keep the CIA clean.[6]
