Dealing with Bogeys[]

Iron Man and Raptors

Tony Stark is found by F-22s

"An unfortunate training exercise involving an F-22 Raptor occurred yesterday. I am pleased to report that the pilot was not injured. As for the unexpected turn of events on the ground in Gulmira, it is still unclear who or what intervened, but I can assure you that the United States government was not involved."
James Rhodes[src]

The United States Air Force owned many F-22 Raptors. They kept some at Edwards Air Force Base where James Rhodes taught some airmen. Several days later, the Air Force detected a bogey in Gulmira and sent out Whiplash 1 and Whiplash 2 in F-22 Raptors to take a look.

As it turned out, the bogey was Tony Stark in his Mark III armor. James Rhodes called Stark and eventually found out this fact, but not before Stark accidentally flew through a raptor's wing, causing Whiplash 1 to fall in a crash. Luckily, Stark helped deploy Whiplash 1's suit. Rhodes told Stark he owed him a plane.

Used as Threats[]

"You're at 114 Solenski Plaza, 3rd floor. We have an F-22 exactly 8 miles out. Put the woman on the phone or I will blow up the block before you can make the lobby."
Phil Coulson to Georgi Luchkov[src]

Phil Coulson told Georgi Luchkov when he called on one of his thug's phones that there was an F-22 that would fire upon him if he did not allow Natasha Romanoff to talk to him when she was on a mission in Russia.[1]

Tony Stark called Vice President Rodriguez thinking he might be in danger, so Rodriguez told him that he was secure. When the conversation moved to President Matthew Ellis, Rodriguez said that he could have F-22s in the air if Air Force One had a hint of trouble.[2]

Alternate Universes[]

A.I.M. Operative Controller[]

In an alternate universe, Iron Man was discovered attacking several weapons caches, so the United States Air Force sent Whiplash 1 and Scott Campbell to confront him in F-22 Raptors. Stark refused to fight the soldiers, so he contacted the Air Force. However, in taking evasive maneuvers, Stark accidentally damaged Whiplash 1's Raptor, forcing him to use his parachute. However, the parachute was not working, so Stark activated it for him. Stark convinced James Rhodes to call off Campbell, who left with his Raptor.[3]

Custom Armor Test Flight Universe[]

While Iron Man was testing a custom Iron Man Armor, F-22 Raptors were sent out to attack him with missiles. However, Stark destroyed them.[4]

Capabilities[]

It was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, but has additional capabilities that include ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence roles.
