Biography[]

Training with Stephen Strange[]

"Why do you have such a burning desire to keep embarrassing yourself, Stephen?"
"I need to feel like like I'm making progress in something. Even if it's only lasting a few rounds with you."
"Very well."
―Grem and Stephen Strange[src]

Grem was asked by Stephen Strange to train together. While they sparred, Strange discussed his frustrations with his training, unable to produce Astral Projections. Strange explained that everything else he had been taught came naturally to him except projecting, and Grem knocked Strange's staff out of his hand, encouraging him to leave it and continue sparring. He compared the staff to Strange's own mind, identifying it as a tool to be used. Strange left, upset that Grem hadn't been more helpful.

Later, Grem found Strange forming Tao Mandalas as a means of calming his mind, frustrated at his lack of ability to learn. Grem encouraged him to keep going, and told him that there were other ways to form projections that are not in the books Strange had studied. He recommended using previous skills he had used together.[1]
